x pipe is too loud...need quiet mufflers
welp here is the deal...i got a couple of 3" mccord cutouts. i want to put them about 2 ft behind my headers (this would be my loud option). but when the cutouts are closed i would like it to be quiet as a mouse...yet still i want it to stop before the rear axle like it does now. i was planning on going down to a 2 1/2 inch muffler. any suggestions for a quiet muffler? thanks

The first two are what I recommend..
Magnaflow 4x9
Borla XR-1
Edelbrock
Dynomax Ultraflow

so long tubes...cut outs...no cats...a 3" xpipe to 3"-2 1/2" reducers and a 2 1/2 diameter magna flow 4x9 with 2 1/2" dumps will be quiet....or just quieter? cause as it is now my car is very loud, like wake up the neighbors. i think magnaflows are straight threws. are these the best for making it quiet?

I had Magnaflow 4x9's.. they're decently quiet. Not as quiet as what you want though- that will take a combintation of 2 bullets + 2 mufflers if you're running dumps at the axles (angle the turn downs away from the ground also).
If you're running over the axle, you can get away with 2 mufflers only.

why is your exhaust too loud? That's not possible, i think u need 5 fingers to the face!!!!
Exhaust is best when loud, except a raspy drone...but an x-pipe doesn't have a raspy drone

werd i got cutouts controlled by a switch at the headers. i just need to get out of my damn neighbor hood without someone calling the cops. then i can bring on the noise after i'm out by just pushin a switch. plus it makes street racing a blast.

Afterburners are NOT quiet.
I had an X-pipe with 2 different muffler setups...
The first was a pair of Flowtech Afterburners.
The second was a pair of Magnaflow 4x9's.
The Magnaflows were MUCH MUCH quieter than the Afterburners.
DO NOT get Afterburners if you want quiet.

Hmmm.
I have heard a lot of the mufflers that you are talking about, and most of them are loud.
I ran XR1's, and now run ATR Pit Bull mufflers. I think the Edelbrocks, Magnaflows, XR1's, Pit Bulls, are all loudish...
Why not get some high flow 3" cats and put those on, they should cut down the sound a lot.

I am also looking for the most quiet muffler I can find for a true dual setup. Im gonna fab up a X pipe setup dumping at the axle, the only problem is that I will have to run bullets because my car is lowered.
Any Ideas what is best? I was thinking Dynomax. Will they be too loud for a daily driver?

I run the Edlebrocks, uncatted, dumped at the axle. They offer the best clearence I have seen, thus the reason I chose them. They are only 3.5 wide" and are very deep, BUT quiet, especially in the car. Sometimes I wish they were a little loader but I really like them and I'm sure a camm will give me the increase in volume I am looking for. I have no problem holding a conversation, windows open or closed and best of all NO DRONE. They flow very well too and are cool to the touch due to their unique ceramic packing (good for the fuel lines and filter) Good Luck!
