Default Will pacesetters work with lightweight k-members?

Here's an odd question: I have pacesetters and had to notch my k-member (I have the old ones, I guess). What if I buy a lightweight chromemoly k-member? Do I have to notch that, too, or do they generally fit with the old pacesetters?

Are the lightweight ones generally less bulky? I still get a little banging every now and then, so I wonder if I could fix a problem and also lighten my car at the same time...

Anyone try THAT combo?

oh i'm sure you will have no clearance problems...chromoly especially should give you ALOT more room around in there...that is half thier purpose...so you can have more room for turbos or headers

My PA cleared my Pacesetter with room to spare on the drivers side. Slight grinding required on the passenger.

Larry, excuse my ignorance, but what is a "PA?"

In general K-members relieve the area around the
bottom of the block but there are some exceptions,
my BMR has corners on some of the weldment that
stick in further than the factory stamping (which is
unfortunately exactly where my Random Tech high
flow catted Y-pipe cats wanted to be).

I think it all comes down to cases, though, and I can't
ever recall seeing anyone beef about real headers and
aftermarket K-members.

This is where I had to grind on the passenger side to make sure the header did not hit the K member. The engine torques this direction so even though there was a slight clearance with engine torque it would have hit. Only took a couple minutes to give it the extra clearance I felt it needed.

So, the verdict seems to be: "sometimes!"

Larry: That's weird; I had to grind the driver's side on my stock k-member.

I marked on jrp's K-member pic and on a BMR one
where I ran into the bind. Only about half an inch
too far in for the RT cats but I was unwilling to hog
it back, because it's structural for the rear mounting
bolt.

Jimmy,

Was that problem entirely due to the location of your cats?

I believe so, they are a lot fatter than the stockers,
I guess barely fit with the stock K-member and that
one "ear" just screwed me up. If you have an inch or
so clearance against the stocker it probably won't
hit you. It's just different than "normal" in that spot
and my particular pieces interfered.

I have the BMR K-Member and my Pacesetters have a lot of clearance - much more than with the stock K-Member.

Hmmm, so in my particular case, it sounds like the BMR is a good bet...
