Default Are my shorties holding me back?

I just got done with my head swap, stage 2 5.3L. I also have a TR 224, well i have had the cam in for a while. I can feel a small increase in power from the heads, but not too much, not rearly as much as I thought I would. Is it because I havn't tuned the car yet? I got the car tuned after the cam, but not after the heads. I also think it might be because I have JBA shorties and not LT's. Am I losing a lot of power out of my H/C cause of the shorties? how much? I'm wondering if I should order some pacesetters and throw them on before I get the car tuned.

Any input would help as always.
thanks.

Yes. You are prob. losing a fair amount with just the shorties on there. The tune can also be a huge part of that as well since you'll be flowing more air.

The difference between the stock exhaust when it was back on and my Mac midlength setup is nothing short of amazing - I would speculate that the same would hold true for shorties vs. LTs, especially with a heads/cam setup.

I didn't expect it to be such a drastic difference, especially in the top end.

I would think I could even gain a little more by swapping to LTs (I got my Mac's several years ago used for super-cheap, and swapped in 3" carsound cats).

So tuning and Lt's are going to give me quite a bigger jump in power then just the heads did alone without being tuned, right? But it will all go together once its done.

Yes, you're going to see a significant difference when you get your setup "balanced" and to answer your question directly, yes, those shorties are undoubtedly choking your motor right now.

Get that thing tuned it is the key to getting what you want from that motor. The header are holding you backalso but I would think the tune would be more important.
