New LS1 Owners - Newbie Tech - Rattling in hatch area???

Well this has been driving me crazy for several months and I've decided I've had enough. Everytime that I hit a significant bumb (pot hole or speed bumb) a loud rattle or clanking sound comes from the rear hatch area. I'm not sure if it's the hatch itself or something else. I did not notice this until after I had my SFCs installed. Has anybody experienced something similar to this? Any ideas? It always seems that it's the loudest when I have a passenger (go figure), unrelated to the problem (I think), but it's emabarrassing for sure. Anyways, if anybody has any suggestions, please post up b/f I resort to taking it to the dealership.
Thanks,
JHT

check your spare tire. also try the hatch release spring mod.

Yeah, check the latch in the hatch. Mine's been rattling for a while now and I can jiggle the whole thing from side to side. Haven't got round to fixing it yet as it involves removing the rear hatch trim.

Adjust the hatch release mechanism. 2 bolts and slide it down until it tightens up.

as already stated, maybe your spare is jumping around, or maybe the jack came loose and is jangling around.

My Panhard mount bolts were slightly loose and the
bar made a clicking / clunking sound that I was sure
came from inside the trunk. Only bouncing the car from
below, rear wheels on ramps, let me find that sound.

my center mount exhaust cracked in the little center piece from body twist and rattled so bad i had to duck my head down and cover when i pulled in a parking lot. SO EMBARRASSING! I said forget this and grinded the bitch down. no more buzzing.

could be the spare tire as already stated, i however installed slp subframe connectors on my car and the noise went away.

JHTZ28,
In your post, you said you noticed it after installing SFCs. Not sure which type of SFC you had installed, but if the rear lower control arm bolts were taken out and reinstalled when installing the SFC, I would check that first to make sure they are set to the proper torque.
After I had my BMR boxed SFCs installed, I noticed a clanking/rattle noise and the rear lower control arm bolts were the culprit.

It might be your spare tire/jack, if so, just wrap an old T-shirt around your jack.

That's what I did. The sound was a loud metal KA-CHUNK.

Make sure t-shirt is a "small" size or polysester to cut down on weight.
