Default Newbie cam question, and yes I did a search.

Ok I have decided to go with the TR224/224 112 cam. My question is do I need the titainium retainers? I know hardened push rods are a good idea, but on stock heads do I need to spend the extra coin on better springs and titainium retainers? TR has a kit with the push rods/springs/cam but the retainers are another $175.00. Do I really need these?

You definatly need springs,if you do 918's you can use stock retainers.

do you needthem, no, but lighter valvetrain equals great stability at higher RPM's.

What are your plans for the car? If you plan on going to the track or seeing higher rpms more, you should get the titanium retainers.

Thanks for your help guys. My goal for this car is just a little more power and a good lope as it is just my weekend "toy". I won't be racing this one at the track. I am going to do LT headers and LS6 intake when I do the cam. I will have to wait on heads untill next summer.

The car is fun to drive now and sounds great with the LM cat-back, I just want it to be a little nastier. Last dyno was 307.8 rwhp so I am hoping with headers/cam/LS6 to put down 360+. What do you all think?

You should reach 360+ very easy with the mods you are planning to do.

Great!! I was hoping so. I forgot to say along with the TR224 cam/headers/intake I will also be installing a set of 4.10 gears. I want this car to be lot's of fun to knock around on the street on the weekends.

You will like the cam. I have it, but I do not have the ls6 intake yet. I use 918's with the stock retainers, and have not had any problems. And I have run the car pretty hard. Have fun with the car once your done!!
