I like the Equinox. It's a cool little run-a-bout.

My wife is on her way home with a Torrent right now. $23,906 drive out. It was a tough decision because of the way they order them with certain packages. By the time you add anything, you could get a full size truck same price. I know this thread was started off to be sarcastic, but we NEEDED a SUV. 19/25 MPG. I think they look cool..............

All the money wasted on cloning that thing from the Equinox could have been used on further R&D on the Equinox, thus giving us one better product instead of two different but almost identical and worse cars. This type of badge engineering **** is why GM is in its current situation.

I think the Torrent is nice. But we did take it back because the back seat was like sitting on a pine stump. I liked it, but the hard back seat, the helicopter sound when you roll down the windows, and the rear end squeeks were unbearable. We are back looking for something else today while Pontiac keeps calling us back telling us they can give us a even better deal. Damn I liked it but................

Pontiac Torrent (Chevy Equinox)
Well, truth be told -- 2004 Saturn Vue begat 2005 Chevy Equinox, which begat 2006 Pontiac Torrent, which is the best looking, so far, IMHO.

Any guesses as to the 2007 version, Caddy or Buick???? Or hey, maybe they'll bring back Olds so they can have one as well!

19/25 MPG.
I think you'll have a hard time getting those #'s. The A5 doen't have an overdrive gear.

5th = 1.00:1

Wow they accomplished all that by only swapping the emblems.

It's like they aren't even trying anymore.

They get pretty close to it. My wife gets 17-18 around town. Dunno about the highway mileage.

And why would three basically identical vehicles need engines from two different sources---Honda for the Saturn, and a Chinese-assembled engine for the Chevy and Pontiac. Wouldn't it make more sense to use the same engines across the board?

The Torrent / Equinax are completly different than the Vue. The Vue is less sporty does not look as nice but drives completely different and has much less rear road noise. The Vue has no helicopter sound with windows down. It's seats are much more comfortable. 250 HP VUE 185 HP Torrent. They are not the same at all, turning radius etc.

Actually the Saturn Vue is the sportiest of the trio. I have driven a Vue Red Line and it handled quite nicely, and was pretty quick too. I even thought the weird styling looked pretty good without all the grey plastic.

While GM did a "decent" job at making these two "appear" different (IE seats, engine, etc), they are most deifinately the same platform. I work for a Chevy Dealership, and most of the Equinox parts we get come in Saturn boxes.
