There is a guy in my class that has an 02 trans am. Its just a regular black TE with 16 inch chrome wheels. WELLL the problem exists is that the car HAS some chrome NHRA edition badges on the car(on the side on the pillar that is between the side windows and the rear window) and then another one on the trunk panel right over the key whole. Well I am convinced that it IS NOT an NHRA edition car b/c I thought they were the yellow ram air cars with the black wheels.

So tell me im right!!!! But if I am right i'm afraid this guy got his ass ripped b/c i think they sold the car to him as an NHRA edition car.

The yellow with black wheels was the 35th Anniversary Edition. It also has black side decals decals on the hood.

The yellow cars were a special edition, if it would have made it to 2004 it would have been a 35th ann car, but they were 2002's which makes it a 33rd ann. actually

The NHRA's are not all yellow. You can get them on any color. I think it's just a badging thing and different rear gear and that's all. Not to sure though.

There were some NHRA threads on here not too long ago I think. I'm pretty sure you could get it in any color, but it was just some badges I beleive.

The yellow 2002 T/As were the Collectors Edition TransAm,which was a WS6(RamAir) car.

yeah, you're thinking the CETA, the NHRA edition is nothing more than badges, no difference in power, gearing, or anything.

It is very possible that it is an actual NHRA Trans Am. They do have the chrome 16's and are not available with the WS6 package, its one or the other. They come in any color, and have the badges you are talking about. Like said above, you are thinking of the yellow Collectors Edition Trans Am (CETA).

there is a black NHRA edition TA at a local pontiac dealership here in town. It looks just as you discribed. I think your boy has the real deal.

The Collector's Edition T/A was celebrating 35 years of the Firebird brand...not just the Trans Am model. You would have been correct to say 33rd if it were in celebration of the Trans Am only.

Technically, it would have been the 36th Anniversary car as the car was assembled for 36 model years.

The NHRA editions were pretty rare. Here's what I found out about the option:

The NHRA option added $1,070 - $1,095 to the sticker price and included (but
not limited to) the following: Hurst manual 6-speed (3.42 ratio) or automatic
transmission (3.23 ratio), power-steering cooling, P245/50ZR16 performance tires, NHRA badges & keychain.

yeah 2002 was for the Firebird, 1999 was the 30th for T/A. they just made the 35th on the top model.

What I have seen is the NHRA And WS6 are the same but! The WS6 had an option for the Alburn rear end were the NHRA came with it.

It probably is a NHRA edition. Mine is a 75th Aniversary edition, but it has no badges. I think I got a key chain though.
