Default Heads milled .015 with G5X3

I am looking at a set of 5.3 heads but i just found out that they are milled .015. I was wondering if the X3 will clear even with this small amount of milling.

The X3 will not fit with un-milled heads. You need new pistons or a fly cut to run that cam 'safely'.

LG said to fly cut .060 with un-milled heads, so you would need .075 to clear!

Are you saying that even unmilled 5.3 heads you would have to flycut?

Just sharing what LG said... And yes, I was told to fly cut .060 with un-milled 5.3 heads.

I have several people comment that the X3 would clear on a 114 but be close on a 112. That was with 853, 241 castings. Being that the 5.3 head has more compression it also has a lower overal deck thickness.
Gurus?

you need to fly cut on the 112, not the 114.

I can't imagine how reducing the lsa by two degrees would cause a 60 thousanths reduction in piston to valve clearance. Maybe I am just missing something.

I believe the 5.3's should have same clearance if unmilled, the problem come once you get into larger valves I believe. I think you would probably have to flycut, but no one will be able to give you a definate answer, youll just have to check and see if thats what you want to run. Whatever you do, dont just hope that it works cause someone said it would.

Louis will get you the info you need, Joe.

If I were you I'd get a custom set of 5.3 S2s from TEA. Trust me

Joe, I was referring to the guy before you that said you have to fly cut 112 instead of 114. I tried to do that math with equations on here, but couldnt get an answer I would be confident enough passing on, due to the fact it is so close.

Good luck

My 5.3's are milled 0.030, and it took a pretty deep flycut - 080 or more to clear my G5X3 on 112 lsa with 2.04 valves. The big problem is the larger valve size, especially on a 112 lsa. Stock size valves on a 114 lsa are supposed to clear, any other combo requires a flycut. I'd call Lou to be sure how much.

under_construction,
What problems would cutting the pistions that much cause? The reason I ask is because I have the same heads cut .025. I have a FM13 114+4 going in and if the shop tells me they have to cut for it I think I am going to step up to a G5X3 112 and have them cut a little more.
