Question LQ4 Help!!!

My friend at a collision center has a guy that supplies engines and transmissions with 6 month warranties and he can get me a good price on an LQ4. I am supposed to give him info on what cars they come out of. Blah blah blah.

I went to edmunds.com and checked out a bunch of GMCs and Chevys. I noticed a lot of them are rated at 300hp 4400 rpm, 360 lbs torque 4000 rpm.

Is that an LQ4 with a a different cam? I know the 2001 and up cars are always rated at least 325 hp in these forums. Can anyone clarify? If its just a cam that is fine I would change that anyway. But if its compression or something in the heads I would like to know.

Throw in what cars they come in too if you happen to know.
Also, do all lq4s come with 4L80s?
Sorry about the long post. Thanks!

LQ4 are truck motors, the 345hp is the LQ9. Higher compression is what gave it more power I think? those are all 6.0L motors. and all of them came with the 4L80's

Here is an example of what I was talking about, from edmunds.com

"Last but not least, powertrain engineers even decided to upgrade the nearly new Vortec 6000 V8, which was introduced in GM's redesigned light-duty pickups that debuted in '99. More than 10 improvements, such as new aluminum cylinder heads similar to those used on the LS6 Corvette, a new steel camshaft, and revised intake manifold—help the revamped 6.0-liter make 300 horses and 360 foot-pounds of torque—both class-leading numbers for the standard V8 offering. With Ford's 5.4-liter Triton motor making 260/350, and Dodge's 5.9-liter Magnum managing 245/345, GM has upped the ante on power across the board."

Is this 300/360 6.0 a regular LQ4 toned down? it makes most power at 4400. Is it just a small cam, it says its zo6 based heads so I am pretty sure now. I just wanted to confirm this though, it not some kinda not so good 6.0 right? Others might want this clarified too!

LQ4 and LQ9 blocks are exactly the same. The LQ9 has a coated flat top pitson which gives it 10:1 compression. The LQ4 has a dished piston with 9.4:1 compression. The older LQ4 built in 99 and 2000 came with iron heads and were made with a longer crank for the 4L80. That makes those models incompatible with the 4L60e. In 2001, the LQ4 got the same crank as the rest of the Gen III motors, so it mates perfectly with the 4L60.

That exstra .5 CR point can be made up in the heads if you run some ls1 head or if you want you can grab a set of ls6 or 5.3 to realy up the CR.
