Default Finally got my z

hey guys

i just got a 98 nbm 6 speed z28 hardtop and i love the hell out of it. this is the first car that i have paid over $1000 for so its kinda nice not havin a beater. i just got rid of the beat up 5.0 stang i bought for 750 bucks and i have to say that i like the ls1 crowd a helluva lot better. the car came with the mods in my sig. after christmas i will be purchasing some kooks 1 3/4 stainless lt's and a true dual setup. i know a guy that owns his own muffler shop so any suggestions on a good td setup? i like the way the flowmaster 40 series sound with an h-pipe so im thinking about that but i have heard about the flowmaster cat backs sucking. are the 2 chambers as bad as their 80 series crossflow mufflers? sorry for the long post but im just gettin excited.

there is not too many choices w/ true duals. basically it runs down like this:
1. dump before axle
2. go over both axles
3. go under both axles
4. have 2 pipes that go over the passenger side axle

you could go with H or X pipe. H pipe being louder, X pipe being a little more quite, but with slight h.p increase. bullet mufflers and the sweet chamber mufflers seem to be the most popular choices. good luck with the car

how much did it cost you to have them run over the axle?

should be about 500-600$ but this is without tips or mufflers...so i'd say maybe 100 dollars for tips...100-200 for mufflers depending on what you get..so a full setup probably will run 700-1000 to go out the back...not too bad considering the gmmg cat-back is like 850 bones with the nice tips

i paid $600 for the xpipe back. if i had to do it again, i would just dump them. i dont know what emission laws are in your state. you have a Z, so i doesnt look as weird if you have no tips out the back

yea im thinking about putting a flange where the dumps would turn down and having some pipes made to run under the axle and out the back so i could pick either dumps or all the way out the back.

.
Do a search on some flowmaster mufflers .... the stock replacement ones for our cars are not very good (somewhat restrictive), but for a 1in/1out muffler setup I am sure you can find something good. I would also tend to agree with what crazyguy said.

Good luck and nice pickup on the Z ... I'm sure you'll be a ton happier with the LS1 guys as well, since most mustang guys seem to be pissed they got jipped performance wise. haha jk.
