Pulley bolt from hell.

Pulley bolt from hell. Well guys trying to swap in my TR224 and having a hell of a time w/ the crank pulley bolt. I have tried a 26inch breaker bar. I have tried an impact gun. I also have tried heat. Nothing seems to work. The car has had the cam replaced before under warranty. Could it be that when they had the bolt out they cross threaded it in which is making it such a PITA? Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated.

Is the pulley turning the motor over while you're trying to loosen it? The tranny needs to be in gear ( I forget which) .. that's if you don't already know this.

you need a new impact gun then ..... check out harborfreight.com and you can get a 625lb/ft impact gun for 79 bucks
I got one and if I let my compressor pump up tp 120 psi then that bolt is either gonna break loose or break.
When you try heat, heat the pulley and not the bolt.

I don't like the thought of using an impact. The thought of pounding on the engine's main bearings doesn't appeal to me. I was able to break mine loose with one arm. I think mine was so easy because I have a huge 1" socket set. I think the ratchet is like 3 ft long, and it was on a lift. I just put it on there with the handle straight down, grabbed it with my left hand and the driver side tire with my right and gave a little tug. Make sure you are going counter clockwise to loosen.

i had this exact same problem. impact gun didn't cut the job. took it to a shop i trust and they did it. i have a a4 so they held the torque converter and got it out. sure enough it was stripped at the end of the bolt.

Well I took my panties off and slapped the 26inch breaker bar back on there today and gave her hell. after a few minutes she broke loose, Thank God!
