Default How long did your clutch last after a H/C swap

For the guys with a MN6 and about 420 rwhp, how long before you have to replace the clutch after your H/C package.

My current Y2K clutch had 15500 miles. I dont race at a track, or dump the clutch, but I do drive a little exciting sometimes.

Im curious about you guys that have about 420 RHWP and the stock clutch.

AND if you no longer have that stocker, what did you replace it with, how do you like it, and how much did it cost.

Impossible to predict. If you just drive on the street, and drive like grandma, it'll last 100k miles.

If you go to the dragstrip it'll last like 3 passes

Mine didn't last for ****, but its still in the car.

The problem is it slips at high RPM when the cam (TREX) makes power. It just lets go, like its not engaged. But it doesn't slip at low rpm, so I daily drive it and expect to see many miles out of this clutch until I can afford a Twin Disk setup

The Spec 3 seems to be the clutch of choise. If has more grab then stock with a little heavier pedal. It does take some time to break in, so don't be upset if it chatters after the install.

Your '00 has the old style clutch (like mine did) and it didn't hold very long after headers/cam. I replaced it with the z6 clutch to maintain driveability and it's holding well. Luk says the z6 clutch is rated for about 500 tq (flywheel) so I'm hoping it will be OK.

I dont want to debate which clutch is best with this thread. Just what you may have went with after yours clutch went.
I can live with 4000 miles before replacing it. That will take a year and a half for me!.

My LS6 clutch has 21K miles on it. At 4K miles was making 376rwhp with an LS6 cam. Held fine no problems. 8K miles added TR224 399rwhp. Same no problems. 12K miles added heads with power numbers below. So far no problems and is holding fine. 13 drag strip passes.

Ive had a Spec stg III for a year. It is slipping now. Put about 8000 miles on it.
Plenty of hard launches at the track.

It did work well up untill now.

Do a search on Spec and you will find quite a few who are not to happy with them.

Mcleod or Exedy twin disc setups are expensive but seem to be doing ALOT better than SPEC.

My stock clutch was fine until I went with a cam install and was shifting/launching at higher RPMs... now it's slipping. Plus it wouldn't launch higher than 4500 rpms, and I really need to launch around 6k+ to really hit the ET Streets and get a proper launch. Right now at 4500, it's bogging at the line.

If you don't spend much time at the track with really sticky tires, the clutch should last... but I really doubt it would last me another drag season, so it's getting replaced this winter.

Most cluthces do not make it past Headers. Alot slip stock if driven hard enough.

You must not run the car hard at all. A buddy of mine toasted his LS6 with his stock 02 Z28 and drag radials. It even slips on powershifts with street tires. 308rwhp.

I'm a cam and bolt-on car. The stock clutch is doing fine because I don't get on it too much. I'm trying to make it last until winter...

I installed a Spec 3 when I first bought my car. Two months later I added H/C and the rest of my bolts ons.. It's still holding strong after 4k miles.. and quite a few track passes.
