Default How much power is compression worth?

How much power is compression worth? Say a 450 rwhp H/C 346 with 11:1 compression. How much power would the same H/C 346 have with 12:1 CR? 13:1 CR? I think I remember reading that it was ~3% per full compression point, is that about right?

Thanks, Shawn

Its not quite that simple. It is not a 1 to 1 ratio. What I mean is that going from say 8:1 to 9:1 might yield you a 5% increase, going from 10:1 to 11:1 may give you 2 or 3%, and then going from say 13:1 to 14:1 will only net you say a 1/2% gain.

What about how it affects power under the curve? I can tell a big difference between an 8:1 motor and a 10:1 motor. More than just the peak numbers would suggest anyway, but I guess there is no real way to put that into a rule of thumb.

You have to look at it as a % gain in compression, going from 8:1 to 9:1 is a 12% gain in compression were going from 11:1 to 12:1 is only a 9% gain.
