Default How screwed am i....

If i broke a valve spring?

i romped on it on the way home tonight and an odd noise accompanied it. after i let off i noticed a clicking noise coming from under the hood. it is also very audible from outside the car.

What springs do you have?
If you have singles, I think you would have dropped a valve.
With doubles I think it'll just run like ****.

I'm sure you already know this, but don't run it anymore even to listen to noise.

Pull your valvecovers, they are very easy to pull, if you need help post up and someone can guide you through it. The hardest part is the drivers side where the fuel line is, but the valve cover will come off with fuel lines connected.

i have 918s, the thing is, as the noise developed it was tearing the same amount of *** it always does. didnt feel down on power or anything. i did have to shut it off and crank it back up (gas station) and it stalled out when i did (although it did it once before on this night as well, before i heard the noise).

Is it a clicking, tapping or knocking? Could it be an exhaust leak? Have you checked?

you may have had a rocker back off on you... Happened to a friend of mine the other day. Check your rocker torquing while you've got the valve covers off

Yes, 22 ft lbs of torque. Might also be a blown rocker.

Do you have headers?

I'm thinking exhaust leak too.

I had an old car w/headers that would always lose header gaskets. It was always after a good romp, and the noise was a clicking-tap type noise.

A couple of months ago at the track I blew off the AIR pipe connector to my passenger side header and it made a loud "clackclackclackclack" sound when the car was running, due to the exhaust leaking from the open hole. Of course the bolts holding it on blew off and were lost, but it didn't effect performance at all, and I kept running that evening... fixed it when I got home.

Check all your connections to make sure you don't have an exhaust leak, and then pull the valve covers and hope for the best.

Bent pushrods?

This can be a problem with the OEM's.

Wow..what could have caused the bottom end to shatter like that? Do you think it might be part of the crank somehow? Could it just be a gasket that is busted and parts of it are stuck in the bottom end?

My 40K miles just spun a rod bearing the other day. Had a knocking sound coming from what I thought was the top end until I pulled the VC's and found nothing and drained the oil and found a billion metal shavings on the drain plug.
Here comes the 6.0L!!!!!!!
Wanna buy my blown shortblock for $300? PLEASE?
