reg oil to synthetic
hey guys, i need to change my oil this weekend, and i was thinkin about switchin to synthetic. I noticed a lot of you guys like it, and say it makes the car run smoother, (only negative comments i have seen is that it exasperates leaks, which i dont have anyway). My car has 40k miles.
I was just wondering what is involved in switching, just drain the oil like usual, and put the synthetic in over the dyno oil? Also, what is a reccommended filter when switching (i plan on using mobil 1 10w30 synthetic)
Thanks
Scott

There's a lot of debate on dyno (if changed regularly) vs synthetic. I personally am a synthetic user.
For the change, you're correct - just drain all out and add the synthetic.
.....it won't hurt the engine.

You will not have any problems with going to a synthetic. I went to a synthetic five years ago when mine was new. Just change the oil out like a typical oil change, but you're using synthetic instead of regular based oil to replace the drained oil. You can still use the same filter as you would regular oil.

synthetic oil will not loose its viscosity or break down like a mineral oil over time,it usually also has a higher temp rating.
synthetic blend."may not be a full synthetic "but a mix.
synthetic oil is meant to prolong oil changes, but thats your call just check oil color.
