Default Who's running SBC rods in an LS1?

Called Lunati, They said the only difference between an LS1 rod and a SBC rod is the Standard rod has a slight bore centerline offset. They said I would have no problem running a sbc rod in an ls1 and that Lenginfelter did all the testing and It did not effect anything.
So I call Lenginfelter and they say the same thing about the rods offset, and that they would fit, but that is not how they were designed by GM so they would not run a sbc rod in an LS1.
Anyone running SBC rods in an LS1 with huge power, I will be making 1000 hp. Otherwise I will just buy a new set of Crower or Oliver billets for an LS1.

The rods are the same except the wrist pin size and the length of the rod. Most aftermarket rods are just that, SBC.

No, the SBC rod is offset to one side by about .040 since the SBC bore is not centered over the journal like the LS1 is. You can spot face the one side of the rod and get it centered if you run into an issue, or you can buy the right rods for a LS1.

The big thing is to make sure it isn't in a bind when you assemble it...

Useful info, some local round trackers are going to take the LS1 rods in SBC 350s and KB178 pistons on a nondecked block, should be only .003" out of the hole or so. They may have to check that.

You can use them, and you also can have your pistons made to deal with the offset -- standard procedure.
