Oil consumption?????
Ive noticed here lately that my car is using oil! Where is it going? I did a search but didnt find an answer on why this happens. My car doesnt smoke. Any suggestions? The past two times Ive checked it its been a 1/2 quart low & both of these time were around 300mi difference.

LS1's tend to burn a little more oil than normal due to the ring seating. If your vehicle is still under warranty (99 I doubt it) then you could have the dealership do an oil consumption analysis, and if your car fails then they can replace the rings under warrenty. Have you done the PVC mode yet? I haven't tried it yet but that will be my next step to try help the problem some.

LS1s can suck when it comes to burning oil...
I am at 40,000 miles and use 1.5 quarts every 3,000 miles. When I bought it I used no oil. Must be from my aggressive driving

You should try using German Castrol. It is a heavy 30wt and gives you less consumption. An alternative would be to mix 4 quarts of the Mobil 1 10w-30 and 2 quarts of the 15w-50. It will yield a heavy 30wt mix. Another possibility would be to use Mobil 1 0w-40. It is factor fill for Mercedes.

make sure you are always checking your oil when the car is cold. it lets all the oil get back to the pan. i thought i was burning around a 1/2 a quart, but i wasnt. i was checking it when it was cold, then hot. i started the whole oil consumption thing with gm, its a pain in the azz.

I noticed mine was "burning" oil when I drove it home from TX. I immediately changed the oil when I got home. I just checked it again after 1k miles and it looks like it's burned some more...I'm not sure how much? Any idea how to tell how much oil it is burning/using? Like...on the dipstick...how big of an increment in the operating zone means minus so much oil?
I haven't checked it cold...both times were hot and at the gas station. I think I'll check it today before I go to work.
Anyone know where the catch is? I hear some people talking about finding oil in the catch.

I doubt it's the viscocity of his oil, that has anything to do with his oil consumption issue. I'm using an oil in the 0w-5 range, and have been since mine was new, and I have no oil consumption problems at all or ever have. I would go with checking the valve stem seals and the piston rings.
