Default A4 users big cams, good daily driver?

I am ready to purchase some AFR 205 heads, but can't decide on what cam, and if I want the heads milled to get more compression. The car is a A4 with a 4000 stall, so what cam would you guys reccomend. I currently have a 224/224 114, and I would like a lot bigger. I am thinking of someting that would rev all at about 6700-6800. Any opinions? Would a large cam with 112 be able to be tuned properly to idle on my a4? And I will be getting long tubes at the same time as well.

You should be fine with a larger cam with that size stall. You may want to look at the tsp ms3, lots of people have been seeing good results with it. Only issue i could think of with the bigger cam is that you may need to have your lockup speed raised so you don't get cam surge when the tc locks.

I had the X1 cam from MTI and loved it with my A4. MTI has made a new cam, alot bigger than the X1 and they are putting it in as we speak. Call David at MTI and he will tell you alittle about it. Lets just say this, I pulled 414rwhp safely tuned with the X1 for spray-pulled timing and running rich. Could have gotten 10-15 more with hotter tune. That would have been 420-430rwhp with A4, 12-bolt,3.73 and Vig with heavy ZR-1 wheels. I will have new numbers next week about Wensday!!

Our MS3 camshaft will pick up some NICE power over your current 224/224 camshaft. I would expect a solid 20-25 RWHP gain tuned in over your current camshaft. With the AFR 205 heads, you'll actually GAIN .015" of p-to-v clearance over a set of factory cylinder heads. So, you could run the 205's and our MS3 camshaft without cutting valve reliefs so long as you don't shave the heads. The last car we did an MS3 camshaft install with dyno tune, it netted 427 RWHP with stock cylinder heads. We had two MS3-cammed cars at the Southern Shootout running in the 10's, but one of them broke the rearend on the first qualifying pass Sunday morning. Mid-1.4x 60' times take their toll on 10-bolt rearends. So long as you have a quality tune in the car, you'll be able to drive the car anywhere with the MS3. We have quite a few daily-driver MS3 cars. Our shipping/receiving manager has one in his '01 Z28 A4, and it's his only mode of transportation...rain or shine.

Feel free to give me a call at the number below or e-mail me at trevor@texas-speed.com if you have any questions or concerns. FYI, we have the AFR 205 heads on special for $2,182 shipped anywhere in the continental U.S.

A 232/228 112 straight up would also make nice power up top and be fairly tunable.

this thread again.....

TSP 231/237 595/.598 112* by no means a humangus cam, it does the job very well, and idles like a kitten my A4 w/3000 stall, and revs, well, it goes into the 6800range

Enjoy.
