Good deal?
Hi. I just bought a 2001 Trans Am coupe last week from a dealer in Tucson. It has 75k miles, a brand new paint job and is in excellent condition. I paid $11,995 for it. I thought that was a really good deal but this is my first F-body and I'd like to hear other's opinions.
Also, my warranty only covers $4,000 worth of work total and has a $100 deductable for everytime it goes into the shop...is that normal?
Sorry if these seem like stupid questions but this is the first car I've ever bought from a dealer.
Thanks in advance for any replies!

brand new paint job on a car that only has 75k miles , done by dealer, then sells it for 12k? an 01 same miles good condition can go for 14-16k with a brand new paint job done only for looks you could expect to see the high end of 16k....
either you got a GREAT deal,
or you got sold a wrecked car ......
the terms of the warrenty add to the suspition

Thanks for replying. I also thought it was suspicous when they told me they were repainting the car so I ran a Carfax and it came out fine....they said they had it painted because of a couple faded areas.
So the warranty does sound like it was a rip off maybe? It's 2 year/24k mile bumper to bumper and I paid about $1500 for it.
I read over the paperwork a bit more closely and realized that the clutch isn't covered at all, which worries me because I'm just learning how to drive a stick and I afraid that I'm going to ruin it.
Thanks again for your input.

no one covers the clutch, not even the factory...
you just said the very reason why they dont....
clutch failure do to normal driving is rare...
clutches die because the person is racing, or dont know how to drive

oh man just took another look... you got RIPPED!!!!!
1500 for 4000
4000 only labor(not parts)
100 every time covered or not.
they will adjust the part price to fill in the missing labor cost... warrenty not worth it..

Wow you dont give up do you troll?
Your friends sound as though they lucked out, or it was proven to be a honestly defective part. (rare)
Your post (as usual) holds no info toward the original post.
Get off my nuts ,flee. Your starting to itch.

These are basic gm warrantys and gee looks whats on the not covered part....

Gee look at that ford does not either.

Gee chrysler does not either.
So that covers the big 3,and no big surprizes there
You can however purchase more coverage (cost extra) to include the clutch.
Geez how many times do you have to be made a fool of before you stop?

That's too bad about the warranty, but I guess they had to make some of their money back somehow :-( I looked up the Bluebook on the car it says the car retails for a little over $16k.
Even with that crap warranty I only paid about $13,500 for the car, so I'm not going to get too upset about it, but I'll definantly be more careful next time I buy a car.
I'm not sure if the warranty covers only labor or parts and labor...I'll read it over again later today and find out. Would $4000 even be enough to rebuild the transmission or the engine if one of those was to go bad?
Is it possible the car could have been in an accident and Carfax isn't showing it?

I wish I would have foudn this before I agreed to the warranty... http://www.brennanlaw.com/lemonlaw/laconsumerripoff.htm
Western General is the company my warranty is through.
On the bright side, at least I'm only paying 5.04% interest over 4 years instead of 10% or 15%...

I think you got a great deal even with the $1500 warranty. However, I'd still be leary over the new paint. CARFAX does not pick everything up. The car shouldn't fade that much in 3 years, even in Arizona.

Even if the car is wrecked if it was a small wreck and was repaired properly it will be fine. My car for example just had some scratches and someone keyed the side and it only had 75000.
