Default low hp #'s with h/c install

Hey guy's im new and this site is awsome, so could someone please help me. I had a Tr224/224-112 cam installed on my 99ss with longtubes, ory magnaflow, and 80mm tb and a messed up mti lid, and the car had 84k miles and it dynoed 359hp and 354tq. I thaought those #'s were low enough, and my mechanic (dont want to give a name) said it could be my bottom end so I excepted that. Well then I installed an ls6 intake, slp lid, spec stge3, well shortly after that install, a lifter went bad, so instead of just chaging the lifter I did stge2 ported heads with dual springs, and all that good stuff, and comp lifters oem, new gaskets everything. costed me alot more than what I wanted to spend, and then it dynoed 374hp and 359tq, Im seriously upset. So I talked to thunder and they said that possibly the cam is installed wrong, and its not retarted correct, which I believe them, but now were gonna do a compression test and leak down test, to see if its the bottom end, but how can I tell if the cam is installed wrong, thanks any help would help.

How does the dyno graph look? Nice and smooth or does it have spikes, dips, etc..?

Dyno numbers dont tell all. A car can dyno low and still run hard. How was you air/fuel ratio? and knock retard? Do you have a graph you can post up for us to look at? Is the preload on the lifters set correctly? Have you run the car at the track to see what the times are compared to the hp numbers? Don't be too discouraged, from the sound of it the car peaked where it should have....if might just be the dyno you are using.

If you want to check if the cam is not right on then you have to pull the water pump, pull the front cover and check if they used the stock timing gear. If they did not then you need to check and see if the cam is set straigh. If it is you can retard it 2 degress if you want.

The car runs strong, but im not sure about the a/f ratio and knock retard see I dont get to see the graph, when its on the dyno, but possibly I could get one, if my mech has it. I know this sounds stupid but what is lifter preload? and could it effect power that much, cuz the car should do 420+RWH with these parts,it dynoed 338hp and 345tq before any motor work it has always ran strong, 13.10@109 before with just lid, sus, and exhaust, and a 2.160ft but it did have a bending pushrod problem, and I put in hardend pushrods and it stopped. havent went to the track yet kinda scared to, afraid the cam is damaged by looking at the old lifter.

The the cam is installed straight up. Only retarding it got was what was ground in to it.
They used the stock gears so if it is dot to dot then it is where it needs to be. You would get more power out of it if you stripped it down and put a new gear set on it so you could retard it. Sorry man that the way these things go.

Just an FYI i pulled my motor last week and pulled it apart and the rings and bearings had lots of wear on them. No damage or anything but just lots of wear. I have more than 500 passes on the motor at the track and who knows how many on the street. Do your leak down and if it dont pass there is your problem.
