Attention RustTang Owners!!!
Hey Guys,
What's the equivilant of LS1-tech if you own a late model Mustang? We're looking at doing a 2005 Mustang kit and I'm looking for some feedback.
Okay everybody else here is your story:
Three weeks ago after we put the 5PSI kit on my stock '02 SS (I work for STS) We were driving around and I was trying to get some old guy in a convertible C5 to race me. Those old Vette guys never want to race so I left him there with the waste gate open and the Turbo screaming. I guess there was an '04 Cobra convertible behind me that heard me and he came up next to me asking what that noise was. My wife told him it was a turbo and asked him if he wanted to race. He said that he had some good competition for me. We both turned at the next light and were rolling down the road next to each other, we both took off from about 10 and I pulled about 4 car lengths on him to about 60. Did the same thing about three times, I was amazed at how well my car pulled on him. We pulled up to a red light and he got out and went back to open his bottle, my wife asked him what he was doing (bless her heart) and he told us he was opening his 100 shot. I figured that he would be able to keep up with me with an extra 100 shot. We took off and I still pulled on him, had about 2 car lengths as went up to about 60, we rolled from 20 up to 70 and I still had 3 car lengths on him.
I'm pushing about 420rwhp with about 440 pounds of torque but with the Turbo the power is so smooth that you can't really tell. That was the first time I raced a SC Cobra and I was little dissapoined that I hadn't raced one when my car was stock.
Maybe my blow off valve was too loud and he had a hard time shifting. That's one great thing about the STS kit, when you get them at your rear fender the blow off valve is so loud that it prevents them from driving well.

first of all, if that cobra had the standard mods (intake, 2.8 pulley, tune, exhaust) u would have lost.
2nd, if he was bone stock and had a 100 shot, u should have lost
3rd, racing up to 60 or 70 mph is hardly a race. ( on a bone stock a4 z28 a race from 20 to 60 is like 4-5 sec
a simple slow shift, or not being in the sweet spot of the powerband could have affected the race significantly. if u would have raced to maybe a 100 or so, u could see who the real winner is.

Wasn't impossible, happened again and again....and again.
420 is rear wheel horsepower, somewhere around 500 at the crank. I'm getting full boost at 2800 RPM with more then 400 pounds of torque at the rear wheels between 3200 and 5500 and peaking at 4200 RPM with 445 pounds. Our Turbos are sized to make power where you want it. Maybe he couldn't drive, maybe his girlfriend is 800 pounds? I don't know. He didn't sound like he had full exhaust or too loud of an intake. 10 to 60 or 70 is a decent race if you pull on someone by car lengths repeatedly. There were other cars on the road and with my wife in the car and our two little kids in the back I didn't plan on killing my whole family at the same time.
But really, what is a good Mustang Forum?

There isnt anything about what he said that is impossible. Your assuming the cobra was modded which would make sense but dosnt have to be true. Also even still, there are ALOT of factors that could make the race turn out like it did.
p.s. the website you seek is corral.net

Geez, 4-5 secs?
That seems a little long, I guess mine is just a freak.
Bradyb?
What size compressor are you running "on the turbo"?

[QUOTE=deetsnai]with 420 hp i find this be impossible.
QUOTE]
i agree with him, he covered all the things. i mean, granted if that cobra was lost in his transmission, but i mean you said a 100 shot, he actually said he turned it on right? it just seems hard to believe, but its possible.
