Default vette or firehawk?

I have been looking for a 6 speed LS1 for about 3 months now. When I bought my Z28 I HA TO HAVE SOM and settled for the A4, but now I wish it was a 6 speed. I have found a 2001 Z06 and a 2002 Firehawk. I was wondering which one would be the better car? The Z06 is $8000 more than the hawk however.

The lure of the vette is that...well it's a vette. So I wonder if I have found a good deal on a Z06 or if the C5 vettes will continue to drop in price and I can get one later.

The firehawk will up my payment about $80/month, the Z06 will up the payment around $230/month. Both of them are black.

My 2001 SOM Z28 A4 has 34K miles on it, the 2002 firehawk M6 has 36K miles and the 2001 Z06 has 33K miles on it.

My dilemma is whether to keep my 2001 SOM Z28 A4, with the cheapest payment of all 3 cars and use whatever money was going to be spent on taxes (~$1000) and spend that on mods. Or to trade it on a 6 speed car that I seem to covet? Keep the SOM or give up color choice for the 6 speed?

any thoughts? advice?

i would keep what you currently have and get a small stall converter for it.

But if you are set on getting a 6 speed i would get the Z06 if you can afford it. it's not worth it if the purchase will put you in a monthly bind though.

Just curious, what is the price on the Z06? I ask because if it's close to the price of the '02 Z06's i would go for a 2002.

Depending on what that Hawk has on it I'd have to go with the Hawk. Only 1500, 2002 models ever made! If it has the Bilstein, or 1LE suspension and chrome wheels then get it! Hawks are bad *** and everybody knows it. Check the RPO codes on the passenger door jam for the SLP options. Check the driver’s side door jam for the GM RPO code and look for “WU6” to make sure you’ve got a real Hawk. There are some counterfeits out there. Mines build number #1407.

Keep you car till it is paid off then throw all your money in it. And then you can kill ZO6's.

I would keep your current ride and invest in it. Once it is paid you can do all kinds of crazy **** and even put in a manual.

But, I know from experience, if the vette or the Hawk are what you really want and you can afford it... Get the Hawk or Vette. I would choose the Hawk since I love the Firebird design and do not want a 2 seater.

lets put this into perspective...I bought mine for $18,250 (53K)...my dad bought his for ~$42,000 (4K miles used). the math comes out $23,750. Now for that margin of price and his car being only 385hp/385tq who do you think got the better deal?

1- your dad paid too much
2- he still got the better deal.

Just go with a torque converter, not sure how much stall ur gonna need, depends on what ur plans are for it. If u really want a 6 speed then just find another Z28 or TA if u want, then u can have what u wanted and instead of having put money in to buy a Firehawk or vette, u got extra money to spend on the car.

About the firehawk, i was thinkin bout this the other day but i'm glad i got a Z28 and not an SS, this time it was partly a different reasoning to it though. In the end i was probably gonna change everything that made an SS what it was........Being a firehawk though, i wouldn't wanna mess with a very low production count, i think people should try to keep those almost completely stock, maybe a new paint job that sticks out and if the wheels aren't chrome already then do it. Maybe upgrade some of the quality, do little things to the car to make it perfect but still stock.

If u saying u want another SOM if u do trade cars, then i say just looks for the exact car u want and until then, u got ur Z.
