I may have a new free mod
Ok I got an idea when I was looking at my stock lid at silencer (don't have the funds yet for an aftermarket). seems to me like the silencer would take away a few hp, but I didn't want to hack it off and have it look like crap. So I cut some plastic pieces off a cup to fit the triangle shaped openings and sealed it with silicone so it is totally reversable. Am I the first one to do this? If so, what do you guys think about it?

Sorry, but you arent the first one to remove the silencer.
Some have made cones (usually out of metal), others have used rubber waste pipe reducers made by Fernco (available at Home Depot).

This type of stuff was done back in 1998 when the LS1 f-bodies first came out. I hacked off my silencers (on the 98 Formula I had then) and taped the hell out of what was left, and it worked, but eventually I put an MTI lid on it instead since it looked better that way.

Good thinking for a free mod! You can get a used lid for pretty cheap though, if you want to go that route. Check the for sale forum here, they come up quite often.

Way to be inventive, but IMO it's a waste. I sold my lid for $40. The gain with a lid and a smooth bellows is only about 10rwhp. Part of that increase is a direct result of the factory lid, which you're still using.

it would be pretty stealthy to put some giggle gas and fuel solonoids in the factory baffle hollows, and dremel out the ridges in the stock airlid. i'm sure somebody has had to have done that by now, dunno about the gains, but it would be kinda cool from a sleeper point of view.
but then again, thats lotsa work when an aftermarket lid is pretty much proven and downright simple.

I hate to admit that the lid and bellow was the last mod I did, but was worth it for the money! Good inginuity(sp?) though!
May car payments are also about 1500 a month for two veh and insurance. Which is why I'm not real quick to spend the $$ for the mods! Is it a sign you're a car nut when you build a new house and your mortgage is less than car payments?
