Got a question PRC springs and Shims for my TEA heads
got a set of PRC springs on the way to replace my comp 987 springs 15K miles on them, as you know the 987s are larger diameter springs and TEA had to open up the spring pockets to fit these springs in there, they are still shimmed as i got them from TEA with copper(or at least it looks like copper) shims. when i take these springs off replace the seals and seat do i just use the same shims that they had in there or what? Anyone know what intall height TEA puts their 987s at? help appreciated guys, Kurt

Kurt, Remove all of the old shims. Then install the new seat base that comes with the PRC kit. This will install the spring at the correct height. The PRC kit is designed to install at 1.800.

do you know if TEA cuts deeper into the head thus the reason for a shim or if they just open them up? the shims that are in there dont look very thick anyways maybe .015, guess ill do a couple spings and try and get as good of a measurement as i can with my little machinist ruler, if its + or - .020 should i leave it alone?

I would think they just open them up.There is not much material under the seat when you open the pocket up.If they are cut deeper it would be very week.
