Default Mustang HP #s??

Anybody know what a stock 98 Mustang GT horsepower ratings were? What about the Cobra? I got a buddy about to get one and I was wondering how the 4.6 stacks up against LS1s

a stock SN95 will lose to an LS1 plain and simple... the GT's only had about 230hp rating and cobras I think were 280ish... They'd lose stock for stock against an LS1

Just ask a certain 99 Black GT running a ATI at 8#. Had to run him 3 times at the track to prove the point.

I would agree on the GT but a boosted 96-98 Cobra could put down some decent #'s. But yeah, without blower not a chance in the hot place
Stock 96-98 Gt 225hp
Stock 96-98 Cobra 305hp

They really don't put down decent #'s even with boost. Remember that TV show, I think it was Horsepower TV, a while back that boosted a 96 GT and dynoed like 280 rwhp after? That's just sad...

A buddy of mine has a 97 Cobra that ran 12.09 @ 111mph with the stock motor and stock intake. They aren't all that slow

Yeah I know, I saw that episode. Your right, it is just plain sad. But in my defense I did say the 96-98 Cobra's with boost could be fast. Since they are a 4v config. they respond a whole lot better to boost than the 2v do. They also did a Pacific Green 98 Cobra on HPTV and on 10lbs. of boost it made 425 horsepower to the wheels. But I agree completely on the 2v cars.
I owned a 96 Cobra and in bone stock trim it put down 256hp@the wheels. So
there not that bad even in stock trim. Thats more than my stock 95Z28 put down. Coarse it didn't have the torque the ole Z had either.

woopppttteeeedoooo

You failed to mention he's running slicks, drag suspension, every bolt-on, and 4.56's. IMO, that sucks.

Oh, and the 98 2V got a *slight* boost in power over the 96/97. Nothing that will make any difference though.

and he still only managed a 111mph trap speed. hell, basic bolt on ls1's are doing that.

i can say that a 96-98 gt is the slowest cars in the world, well almost

seriously, nothing other than a motor change will make these cars run

Stock they will run like 10.20's in the 1/8 ... my stock s-10 4.3 ran a 10.13

They are really sad. Cobras are alot faster but no match for an LS1 or even a LT1 in stock trim

people need to remember you could get a GT for a few thousand less and put about 500 into it and beat a Z28..... so for the most basic of everyday driving, the stang was a better deal *in the 5.0 days*

Well, I definately agree on the first count, but I would dis-agree on the Cobra. A well driven Cobra 96-98 should end up being a drivers race. Stock for Stock there pretty close horsepower wise. 305 for the Cobra and 275-285 for the Z. Not sure what the torque #'s were but obviously that goes to the Z. Coarse, the Cobra should be compared to a SS. There they were even, horsepower wise. 305 to 305.

Were actually talking about the 4.6. But since your talking about the 5.0, assuming your referring to the SN-95, the only thing about buying a 94-95 GT and making it go fast is, compared to the LT1 cars, they were already in a pretty heavy defecit. A stock 94-95 GT would dyno out usuall between 180 to 190. Whereas, a stock LT1 car would usually put down at least 230 to 240. And don't forget about Mr. Torque I'm not sure you could put 500.00 dollars in any GT (even in a fox body) and make it run with an LS1, maybe an LT1. Now if your talking about Fox body to 3rd Gen. then your right on the money.

I've only seen one that ran ok for what it was. My buddy had a 99 GT vert with only pulley's, o/r h, and a catback. It ran 14.1 @ 100. Sure, that's not great when comparing to us, but it's still alright for a Mustang

Funny this thread came around because there is a red 98 Cobra that has just popped up here. The kid who got it actually came into my work (I work in parts) and was saying how fast it was and how Camaros are junk. Lucky for him I wasn't there when he said all that as I would have thrown down $100 to go right there. I'll wait until he comes back in

Ahhh the ignorance. Funny thing was he came in to price out euro tail lights for it.

what do you have to take out of a muskrat to geter down to 3100! raceweight!!! not standing weight ...RACEWEIGHT!!!
and i thought my 3000 standing weight lt1 was a stripper...

stock they are 3400 lbs then add the average 200 lbs man... you got to drop 500! theres 1/2 a sec right there.
