I wouldn't say the 03 "easily", but the 04, *definetly*!

I've *never* seen the business-end of a Mustang, in 10+ years of racing Pontiacs, until the 04 Cobra came along.

That car's BAD AZZ. Too bad it doesn't come in automatic (I'm a lazy bastage, who often has to sit in traffic). The wife has a 99 TA and an 03 Cobra. She drives the hell out of both of them, and says the Cobra's only faster because she can ring it out with the manual.

Uhhh.. the 03 and 04 cobra have the same motor specs (see below) ... so how do you arrive at the conclusion that the 04 is faster out of the box ? I know people with both and it's give or take on both... now if you add some mods then that's a different story.. but both out of the box is not that different at least from what i've seen.

Let me say this, I have seen stock Cobras go 13.6 @ 106 mph at the track. And all day long consistent as it gets, almost like he was bracket racing and dialing it in. I have also seen them go high 12s stock at 110+ mph. Now I have seen LS1s go high 13s stock at 103 mph and high 12s stock at 110 mph ( My 01 WS6 did it). So if the 2 cars race and you have a great running LS1 and a not so great running Cobra it could/would be close. For the most part though a stock Cobra should beat a stock LS1 by 2-4 cars.

Well I just ran a LS1 M6 with a catback, lid and free mods. We raced 3 times (2 from a roll and 1 from a dig)the other day and I pulled on him all three times. My car is bone stock and it only had 450 miles on it when we raced. Still had the paper tags on it.

When my car was bone stock i ran some as well and never lost.. but for all intents and purposes (stock v/s stock) an 03/04 Cobra is gonna come out the winner.

The Cobra should win every time. Here's the kicker though...alot of 03/04 Cobra owners are first time Mustang owners (including myself). It takes a while to get used to driving one of these things in comparison to a M6 LS1 f or y body. Therefore, you'll see a wide variety of times at the track. Personally, I only made about 5 passes in bone stock form. My best was a 13.5 @ 106mph or something like that. If I were to drive Brandon's Cobra, I'm sure I could squeak out a 12.7 @ 111mph or so now that I've perfected driving these cars.

An experienced LS1 driver will beat an inexperienced Cobra driver. The Cobra itself has more in it than a stock LS1 once drivers are removed from the equation.

I agree with unit.. pound for pound the 03/04 Cobra has the stock advantage but driving skills play a MAJOR part as well.

You'll pay more for the Cobra for sure. IMO the main advantage for the Cobra is the motor is forged and it already has a blower. There is a lot of potential. The LS1 motor isn't forged but you could get a forged motor and a super charger for the price that you would pay for a '03 Cobra. I don't think you will make a bad decision either way. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would never put a blower on a LS1. It's a waste IMO (sorry Tony & PSJ ). I'd go the turbo route.

If you're really making several thousand a week, although I can't see how for a college kid unless your selling coke, get the Cobra.

Yeah the 03/04 cobra motor is excellent.. relatively cheap mods = tremendous gains.. but i guess it comes down to which car you like the looks of and think you'd enjoy having.

Yeah, I'd go the turbo route too but, they are about ~2K more than a blower. I was trying to give him the cheapest option.

I kind of agree here. The 03-04 cobra is definately fast, ill give it that. but to me the looks of a mustang and just thinking of owning one are to me, no offence. And theres always the idiot GT owners crowd who will make you look bad.

just my .02

Certainly a Neon looks better than a Cobra.

Cobra's look F*ckin sick. (In the good way) They just have this beefy/mean stance. And the forged/blower deal out of the box is really sweet. I have no ford bias, so for my next car I would def. consider a nice, used, 03+ Snake.

What the hell does that mean?

You had never been beaten by a stang until then??

Were they all four-bangers or what?
