My car is surging at idle. From doing a little reearch I think it may be a vacuum leak. How do I check to see if there is a leak?

put some soapy water in a spray bottle, then spray the area that you think leaks. If there is a leak it will bubble up. I think you can use wd40 aswell.

I usually take some flammable spray (flammable brake cleaner works) and spray around where unmetered air can enter... if the engine RPM goes up around a certain spot then you've gotta leak there

Default Watch it guys!

When spraying flammable stuff - be careful NOT to get it close to hot engine parts. Did that once with carb cleaner - the top of the engine caught fire. Thank God I only melted my vacuum hoses - that was on an early 90's Citation II. TOTALLY my fault!

Good luck.

there's special machines that will hook up inline with a vacuum line and induce a smoke and will flow through the vacuum system and where it escapes is where the leak is.
