Well, some people have put 315's on a 9" wheel, but that obviously is not really safe. The tire can wear unevenly and may even remove itself under hard cornering. If I was in you position, I would stick on the 285's but I don't know if that would even be safe. This is a touchy subject...Unit213 is an admin here with a strong running 03' and he put 315's on his 9" wheels. I don't know if they are still on there or not though....

You'll be fine w/ 285's. Tires can stretch more than people think.

Ever see a drift car's setup? They stretch 245's on 9.5" and 10" wide rims. Yeah, I know this is the opposite of what you're talking about, but you can still see that tires can fit wide ranges of wheels and still be ok.

Yep 285's will fit but remember it makes the front end handle a little differents because they are so wide. They will follow the road more.

Yea but not all tires are equal?

Which manufacture produces a quality tire, that is affordable, gives excellent traction, and has the widest foot print?

And your point is?

As for a tire: Good Year Eagle F1 GS-D3, either 275 or 285/40ZR17

It's a noticeable difference and yes it is worth it.
