Default Anyone Done This.....

Has anyone just done a head swap? Im think of doing factory LS6 heads or AFR LS6 heads. Im wondering will the stock cam be able to support all that extra flow? I really dont want to swap the cam if possible. Any thoughs?

you'll still need supporting mods to support heads fully. i don't see many mods in the sig, but if you're like me and don't list 'em...post them up!! we'd be able to help you out better

I'd like to keep the car drivable since its my daily driver. Also the cam would add more time and money. Thats why I was just thinking of doing heads.
Also I only have the AirCharger and MSD wires and plugs on the way. Im going to be doing a cat back a tune later also. Should I just stick with factory LS6 heads or opt for the AFR heads?

then go with a low dur. cam like a comp 212/218.... great power cam, and would pass smog and drive near stock....

Also the cam would add more time and money. Thats why I was just thinking of doing heads.
youd really be better off just doing a cam swap..... it would be alot cheaper amd youd make more power than just a head swap......

Should I just stick with factory LS6 heads or opt for the AFR heads?
of i were you i would ge tsome nice ported LS6 heads and swap in a mild cam....
along with a good exhaust set-up......

you could always just throw on a magnesun blower..... HOT ROD mag. just put down 415rwhp and 430rwtq with JUST a blower!
just think what it would do with a good exhaust and even H/C?

go for factory stock ls6 heads if you MUST do a head upgrade. you won't see as much from it since you don't have any supporting mods. its kind of doing things backwards, usually you do full bolt-ons and THEN cam and heads. not too many people out there running heads and cam w/o full bolt ons that i know of, and they prolly aren't gettin the best of times/numbers with that sort of setup either. full bolt ons are needed to get everything you can from a big mod like heads or a cam.

if you had to choose, get a mildish cam like a 224 instead of heads, you'll see a much better gain from it. since you have a brand new car you won't have to replace everything under the sun like i would(oil pump, timing chain, et cetera). although i'd still replace the TC w/at least a single JWIS. good luck!

Additional cam duration alone would help fill the cylinders (what makes pwr) more than a set of heads could ever do alone. A cam would also cost 4-5 times less than a set of AFR's. Driveability with more cam overlap can be made no tougher than stock with a good tuner. Obviously depending on it's size...

couldnt have said it better myself

hell, you could probably throw in some headers and a gt2-3 and make more power then you could heads only.

Well im shoothing for around 350rwhp. That package with a tune should
do the trick. Iam I missing something? I know I could probably read that number with various bolt ons but I'd like to keep the engine bay as stock looking as possibble, so its easy to pass the visual part of the smog inspection.

if your only looking for 350rwhp bolts and a gt2-3, tr220 114, ect will get you there and still pass smog.

Hell, I know of a 228/228-114+4 passing smog on 3 or 4 different CA cars. Very tame idle too.
