Default 05' Mustang goes down at the strip

Ran a brand new GT at South Georgia Motorsports Park (cecil) today. Sharp car, white, factory stock 5(6?)speed manual. I talked to him after, it was his best run of the night, and my worst of the night. He was a great driver.

He ran

60' - 1.877 (on STOCK tires!)
1/8 - 8.520
1/8 MPH - 81.11
1/4 - 13.35
1/4 MPH - 101.58

to my

60' - 1.751
1/8 - 7.968
1/8 MPH - 88.02
1/4 - 12.495
1/4 MPH - 108.27

My best run of the night is in sig. Had fun, Need to put in the 4.11s I have sitting in my bedroom, stock gears are absolutely murdering my times with the big cam. Looking for 11s after XMas

He had to of been a great driver to get a mid to low 13 stock.. I've seen VIDEOS of 05s running low 14s due to bad drivers. Good times for you also!

Wow...that guy must've had some serious skills. 101mph shows how little power the car makes. That 60' is pretty damned impressive on stock radials.

No joke, I was impressed. He was running 13.7-13.8 all night, this was a best pass.

lol, everyone doubted those new gts being quick. It was a matter of time for someone to get down those launches. After seeing some reviews of those gts, I had no doubt they would be running 13s. That guy could possibly hit high 12s with a set of et's. I suspect more of these guys running 13s.

Definitely. The car is a pice of in terms of power from the factory though.

the new gt may not have power, but i love the new look. all the new gt needs is someone like me to buy one put lots of money in it and go 10's. but,i think i'll stick with the ls1 for a little while longer i will hit 9's in the ta.

The new GTs make ~260-270 RWHP in stock trim, and though somewhat heavy, should still be able to pull down better than 100-103 mph (highest I've heard of). There is speculation that the torque management system is playing a role in this somehow.

In good air, 13.3-13.5 from that kind of power to weight ratio doesn't surprise me at all - it should be expected. Apparently the new 3-link rear works pretty well.

A friend of mine just got one with an auto and he drove it straight from the dealership to the strip. It didn't even have 200 miles on it yet! He ran low 14's pretty consistent but he did pull off one 13.8 run.

I've seen the 3 link rear ends. Very interesting.

LOL, so all this means, most of us here running LS1's can take on a GT pretty much stock I mean come on, they had 3 years since they stopped making the F-body's to come up with more power. I bet you even a slightly modded LT1 can keep up with that.

Shouldn't be a problem for us! But hey, ford finally got 300 horses out of it now! GM's had that many for how long now?

Here's the deal...why would Ford increase power? They have no reason to. The sell no matter what. Mustangs outsold fbodies so much that GM killed them. Their goal isn't to manufacture the fastest stock car. They left that up to SVT...be on the look out for a twin screw 5.4L Cobra soon.

I thought GM pulled the plug on the f-bodies b/c of the high price and the fact that rice was outselling them and going on to be the next big thing. I thought it was neck to neck on F-body to stang sells. Although you could get a dressed out GT stang for what? 25,000 and you would pay at least 30,000 for a Z28 fully dressed. I say you get what you pay for.

Towards the end of the F-body's existance, Mustang outsold it by almost 4 to 1.

A low-option Z28 or Formula was about the same price as a Mustang GT. Quite the performance bargain. A loaded Z or T/A was about the same price of a loaded GT, perhaps a bit more. An SS or WS6 was closer in price to the Cobra.

thew mustang did out sell teh z and t/a combined.......but i dont think that is the only reason for a stop of production...the origin of the camaro was to out perform the mustang back in the 60'z......maybe GM is back to its old tricks.no matter what.i still love my Z and im interested to see wat the new cobra/mach-1 might be like......

After reading the reviews of the new stang i was impressed but more on the suspension setup than the new motor.....the new intake looks familiar though.....

that guy must of been a good driver to cut 60'z like that..might be due to the quick shift ratio'z of the tranny. i think that with some practice and good DR'z/et'z, he could get 12'z...but with 101-103 mph it might need some extra thrust...... they do sound different though.dont know wat i think of that.............

overall, the new stang has poential but anybosy with cash can just about own anyone in anything...would like to see wat GM has in store for the ford guys though.......

I thought the whole SVT line from Ford was dead. Or i've heard a lot of people say it is. So the beloved SVT line from ford might get the axe just like our beloved F-body. Life's a bitch ain't it
