worst speed for ls1 A4 roll race?
my friend is going to race an a4 ls1 trans am that has exhaust as his only mod. my friend's car is a manual, but slower, running a best of a 13.9. the trans am will go from a roll. so i was wondering what speed of a roll will benefit my friend most, since he has a manual and can select the gear. like maybe a speed where the ls1 a4 will be at low rpms but the transmission won't downshift. something like that, that could help my friend make it a more even race.

race him from 35-45...thats his weak point i have an a4.. if its below 35 or so even tho it wont drop down into first he can still pull it down into first.. basically dont run him from a 1st gear roll.. run him from 40 or up.. but 35-40 would prolly be best.. if u cant beat him there u wont beat him..

from 35-40 if its stock geard.. 30 or less is still first gear roll and wont make much difference.. i drive an a4.. its only weak spot imo is a 40 start.. i usually will run from 50 or above on the highway just playing around... but personally a dead stop at the track with a win light in either lane is the only way to do it... tell ur friend with the m6 to buy some dragradials and learn to shift better without luanching to hard to break the rearend and he should see lower 13's

Grow some ***** and race from a stop.
Win or loose that is what drag racing is all about.
FWD car run from a roll. (which might be what your friend has)
The pratice will be good.
Anyways. From a roll if he is stock with no converter you can run him from almost anywhere between 35 and 45MPH in my oponion.
You just have to know how to get the edge.
If he is smart he will just downshift the car into the correct gear and wont have to wait for the tranny to downshift.
If he isn't smart and keeps the car in drive you will take the advantage.
Whatever MPH you run from pratice having the shifter in the correct gear, push the clutch in and bring the RPM's up.
Almost like your dumping the clutch but from a roll.
This might help a little as well.
Your friend is probally going to get ran down no matter what.
13.9 with a normal 60 ft (say a 2.1) is quick but probally not fast enough to win a roll race against a slightly modded LS1.

with 3.23s and stock shiftpoints, 35-45 or 75-95. The stock 2-3 shift point is at 85mph. At 75-80mph the tranny will be in OD (4th), 9 times out of ten it won't drop into 2nd on the down shift. It will only drop 1 gear to 3rd and the car will have to wind out the entire gear from a lower than usual RPM (~3300). It's the 3.23 A4s weakest spot. I've had this happen to me on several occasions and quickly gave the other guys 1-2 cars. I would then start making up ground mid-way thru 3rd (100+mph).

i'm his friend. i drive an srt-4. the trans am is another friend of ours. i am going to race him from a stop too. i just want a little something to help me out on the roll race so that i can at least somewhat keep up for one of the races. we know that his car is faster, i just want to try to even it out a little for one of the runs.
