Question 3" TD's too much flow??

My search didnt get the results I was looking for, so I was wondering if 3" td's would kill my tq and power down low while its still just a bolt-on car? I was planning on getting this setup when I did H/C (way later), but my friend wants to trade his 3" td's for my 3"QTP ory, so I figured I need to get it while its free!! A few people said the car would run like a dog on the street if I didnt at least have a cam. My friend has the TR230 so theres no comparison. Just wanted to get your thoughts/experience on this. thanks!!

Im gonna have to say no. I just put dual 3" pipes on my 99 and I dont have anything done to my car other than a lid. My car picked up bigtime everywhere.

I gained 5mph in the 1/8 over a Borla catback

I wouldn't worry about it. Just go get a tune afterwards to take advantage of everything.

The only real downside to 3" true duals is the clearance. Other than that, you're good to go.

Only if your low.

Or if you're stock height.

I also let go of my 3" TD's for a QTP Y-pipe. Gee wonder why?

I have good clearance, just went over 3 speed bumps yesterday. Normal sized ones at that. I didn't scrape and haven't scraped on anything in the week I've had it installed. It tucks nicely but I do have the stock tq arm.
Only downside for me is it's freaking loud as f>@k!

Yeah, clearance (but my old SLP LTs had something to do with that).
The lack of clearance was really hindering my around-town driveability- especially parking garage ramps.

Get 3", do not worry about your low end it will be fine. If you are not lowered then properly installed 3" duals will be okay. Just take it easy in a situation where it may bottom out, better safe than sorry. They sound badass too

On a 98 with LT's, 3" duals, and a lid......nothing more....through an unlocked stock converter mine made 337 rwtq peak AND 325+ rwtq from the start of the dyno run (3.4-3.6k) through 5k. Now, granted, ~3500 isn't exactly low engine speeds but it's not high and it was only 12 rwtq below my peak at that point. (peak at ~4400) Adding a converter and tire (and CAI) I pulled a couple 1.72 60's

I've heard of people with bolt on LT1's complaining of a little low end loss with 3" TD's over the 2.5". One of the guys, "Robbie" on camaroz28.com has 2.5" true duals with an H pipe, Hooker LT's, and CAI, and he has said he didn't really lose any low end. But a friend of his with 3" TD's on a bolt on car said that his 6th gear is kinda useless below 60mph. Robbie said his 95 T/A pulls better in 6th at lower speeds than his friends 6spd bolt on LT1, both being 3.42's.

However, I'm not sure LS1's would be affected as much with the better heads. Most cars seem to work well with the TSP system with stock motors.

im getting so freaking pumped up!!

UPS needs to stop and install my LT's/duals on their truck and haul *** to my house

how much HP do you guys predict i'll gain over my stock manifolds/cats/y-pipe/clogmaster setup i have now?

btw - the headers are pacesetter coated race series and a TSP true dual setup

I wish I could find my graph, but I went from SLP D/D to a 3" True Dual system when I was cam only. I picked up 2hp/16rwtq PEAK. The area under the curve had spots that were 15+ in both HP and TQ. At the low end I gained approx 20+tq from 4k under.

I pick up power across the board as well. though i can tell i have alot more topend than anything else. My car pulls real hard from a roll on the highway. I pulled the **** out of an '03 Cobra last weekend from a 60 punch (3 car lengths). we also went from a stop & it was side by side till about 75-80 then i started to walk away.

I picked up 42rwhp over stock when i added my pacesetters, TSP duals, 3,200VIG converter. without the stall i would have probably got another 15+hp to the wheels

for what its worth my power didnt really start to climb untill 4,400 RPM with peak HP a hair shy of 6,100 RPM
