Just how low are the SLP longtubes?

They hang about 1/2 an inch to 3/4 of an inch lower than your usual long tube. Plus on the passesnger side they have this stupid pipe that makes a u-turn right at the bottom of the header, perfect target for anything. That tuned/ equal length idea is horrible. The Grott design is better and more people run them anyway.

I swapped from SLP LT's to QTP LT's.
The SLP's were a BITCH! to get out. QTP's slipped right in
The SLP's hung low. Not exactly how much, but they were lower.

Most people I've talked to, with several different brands, have agreed on one thing - LT's are a bitch to install. Yes, the SLP LT's will sit 1/2 to 1" lower than others, but the quality is second to none, IMO. I installed mine nearly 3 years ago, and they still look brand new. The fitment is perfect (no rattling, banging or leaking). If you plan on lowering your car, these are not for you. Power is not really a consideration since they're all about the same(+/- 3hp). Good Luck.

As stated earlier, the SLPs are very high quality...that being said, they hang very very low...I can't give you an exact measurement, but I scraped mine all over the place...I replaced my SLPs with Kooks...they were a breeze to install and they offer nearly as much ground clearance as the stock manifolds/y-pipe...

A friend of mine has the SLP LT's on his stock height SS. He still scrapes. He wants to lower his car , but he can't because of them.
He is satified with the quality though.
BTW, I think he gained 25 rwhp with them. (according to before and after dyno results at HPE)

I have the SLP LT's. Clearance is about 3.25" at the header and 3" at the Y-pipe. Never scraped the headers but scraped the Y-pipe twice as it stand a little bit lower than the headers and cats. I'm stock height however. Back in october 2003 I paid 850 for the headers, cats and y-pipe. Quality is top notch IMO (stainless steel AND coated inside and outside / polished outside).
But I'm with the others on this one. If you plan to drop your car, then the SLP's are not for you.
BTW one of the advantage of the SLP LT's is that they will NEVER bang on the floorboard. I had Edelbrock headers and cat-back on my old 96 Z28, plenty of clearance but the banging was really getting on my nerves!

When I was a newbie.. I almost bought a set of used SLP LTs. That is, until I read the post where the guys passenger side header was nearly yanked outta the head after it caught onto a manhole cover.
That's just something that I don't want to have to worry about..

If you want bang for the buck, get a set of new design Pacesetters. Still cheaper than used SLP headers, and they have good clearance to boot. If you want great quality, go with Kooks, they can't be beat. Great clearance to boot.
You wonder why Spohn says that Kooks LT's/Y-pipe are the only long tube setup you can run their normal tq arm with, without having to run the one with a specially modified crossmember that allows more clearance? Hmmm.....
