Default 383 Owners please check in..

I have been using the search and checking what is being used for cams in these motors. I have spent alot of time on the phone with vendors as well. Some suggestions seem alot bigger than I would have thought.

I realize you can go to a bigger cam when adding cubic inches..

With an A4, daily driver, whats the real limit?

Thanks guys.

If you still have that Comp 224 just stay with it unless you want something more aggessive. I just finished one up that has a 238/240 shaft in it so daily driver is a relative term. There are plenty of threads about this so keep diggin'.

I'm running a 232/236 .575/.578 114 LSA and it lopes, but not too bad. I wouldn't want to go any bigger (I'm too old to deal with driveability issues).

It just made 489.3rwhp/480rwtq last week on the dyno. Although, I did have to spend a lot of $$$'s on all of the goodies getting there.
Including:

TEA ported AFR's 2.05/1.57 64cc 10.7:1 compression
LSX/NW 90/90
Kooks 1 7/8 headers
Exedy Twin Disk Clutch

My motor peaks at 5800rpm's and holds above 480rwhp until 6500rpm's. It makes over 450rwtq by 3900rpm's (not too shabby for a baby stroker cam).

Good luck with your setup

The limit, as I understand it, is on your hydraulic lifters and not on streetability when you go big cubes. I could be wrong, though...

Hahaha! No way in hell it will pass the sniffer without friends in smog places. I think the biggest you can go safely in cali and pass is 224/224 - 226/226 with cats.

I had a 230/228 on a 114 and it was almost stock... as far as I remember stock anyways. Even though I'm also an old fart that doent want drivability issues, I went with a 236/236 112, though I had asked for a 114 LS. Guess they didnt hear right. Anyways, the thing is a little much for me. On the other hand, peak power has moved from 5600 to 6000. So I like the general 236ish size for a 387 all-bore. I may try to run a G5-X3 on a 114 soon if some more computer programming doesnt sew up the drivability. I've come to the conclusion that a 383 stroker can take a little more cam than a 387 all-bore given a certain drivability... so your mileage may vary, but it's close.

Fortunately we dont have sniffer tests for newer (obd2+) cars here. They just plug em in a look for codes. No codes, its on to the noise test (woops!).
I will pass the test as soon as I get a plate thrown in the exhaust to pass the noise test. Im currently 13dB over ...and I don't think its all that loud.

A friend of mine locally, ttech1ta I think here on the board has the same cam I have listed in my sig, in his 383 with a built auto, on a nitrous tune (running pretty rich for a 300shot) Hey put down 465rwhp (N/A of course) Other mods are ported LS6 heads, that I think are a few years old, and QTP 1 7/8" headers. Don't really see our cars passing a smog test though

224/224 is the biggest you can go on a stock LS1 and pass smog, but what about a 383? the same?

It has to do with overlap and not engine size.
