I think it's an excellent DD cam. Most everyone will tell you it's outdated and a terrible cam, but for the money and reliability, it's an awesome choice. I'm planning on getting one myself. $400 for a cam and springs that will last is a damn good deal IMO!

well i got the asa cam and ls6 springs. it used to be my DD but not any more. that was one of the reasons i stuck to the .525 lift. i don't think you'll have to change springs often, if ever. good luck

I used to have this exact same setup and it ran well at the track but I never could seem to get my surging issues worked out on startup. I think for a manual car it is a great bang for the buck setup. My hotcam times are in my sig. The times are with an LS1 not LS6 intake also.

It's really not a good DD cam at all, considering you can run cams with over 230 degrees duration that are MUCH more driveable than the hotcam. The hotcam has a whole lot of total duration, and you can tell in its driveability. That's why Winman pulled his out the week after he drove my F11, and never looked back.

I'm new to swapping cams....how is that cam a better daily driver? also my goal is something I don't need to keep swapping out the springs...I notice that the cam you describe has more lift...won't that make the springs wear out faster?

yea hotcam is a good bang for the buck.. prolly wont ever have to worry about any problems with it.. however there are bigger dailydriver cams, all depends on what you want.. i havn't been able to make up my mind i know that much..

Yeah, the hotcam sounds like a good idea but you have to look at it more closely. The price of a good used cam with new 918's is gonna cost the same as the hotcam kit and make the same if not more power with better driveability. You dont even have to rev the motor sky high with the bigger cams to take advantage of the more aggressive grind. I short shifted my 230 cam at 6200 rpms and it still mph with hot cam cars. Seriously, it hasnt been tuned and the rev limiter hasnt been raised.

My point is this, runnin a cam based on spring replacement is about as foolish as runnin tires based on tread wear. Think about it, replacing springs every year isnt that big of deal if you do it yourself. It takes a weekend and $150 for springs. You can try and save money runnin slippery tires, but youre not gonna enjoy your car as much.

i personally think changing springs every year is a waste of time. i hated doing it in the first place with the cam swap. my asa cam produces good power, low end and high end, with the low lift. i'm not about to take a weekend replacing springs. different strokes for different folks i suppose

I'm with you on this white00ws6...when I do things i do them once...sure there are better cams making more power...and people are taking there cars to the track and revving them to over 6000...but thats not me...I wanted something fun for on the street...and i don't want to regret it...I won't be revving my car to more than 5500 so the whole power band from 5500 and up doesn't even apply to my situation.... I wouldn't be the person changing out the springs, so thats why it concerns me...changing the springs is not like changing the oil...I don't have time to be ripping into my motor every year...I like mods that you don't have to worry with...and i know a cam swap isn't the easiest of mods...but I figured a less agressive cam would give me what i was looking for.

I think from your description, you'll be more than happy with the hotcam.
