Opinions on 2001 SLP/SS
What do you fellas think of this deal? I'm about to buy a 2001 NBM M6 SS with 30k miles. It has these SLP options: 5 spoke 17x9 chromes (ZR1), Auburn diff, Dual/Dual exhaust, Bilstein shocks, floor mats, and car cover. The guy says he's never taken the Traction Control off and I have no reason to doubt that, considering he's a 45 year old guy with a family and I talked to him for about an hour and he seems perfectly honest. He lives about a mile away from me also and he knows I'll be back over at his house if he sells me a lemon. Oh yeah, I also drove it and everything worked like a champ. For all these reasons, I think the car is very solid and has been well taken care of, that is why I'm seriously considering it, because I'm going to destroy this thing every time I get in it and need it to hold together. Do you think $18k is a fair price for this?

he wouldn't take any less than 18k, i tried. he said he was going to raise the asking price if I didn't do the deal with him at the time, and once again, I feel he's an honest guy, and right now I'm transfering money so I have a little down time between the deal and the actual sale. after agreeing on 18k, I asked if he would have ever come down to 17.5k, and he said no, that he'd rather hold on to it than sell it for that

i think its a fair deal. might seem high to some ppl but since its seems to be taken care of and not raged on then id go for it. at least you know thats its been well taken care of instead of buying from someone else that might lie to you. u might regret not buying it?

It all depends on what it is worth to you and what you can afford.
IMO, if it is all you want then get it. If you can wait then tell him you could swing 14k and not 18k and thank him for his time. He may go lower.
Also, it is not like GM is making F-Bodies any longer...
For ***** and grins I went to NADA and they gave it a blue book of 19,000+
However, many have gotten their F-Body for much lower than book. It all depends on you. Good luck

I think it's a very fair price, and a good deal. Now having said that though, I think you could probably find one cheaper. I've been trying to sell a 2000 Z28 for months now. There just isn't any market. Like the guys said though, if it's a good deal to you, then it's a good deal. Good Luck!!

sounds like a good deal, my 00 Z/28 had 43K on it and the dealer had it listed for 18,500 but when i came acrossed it, it was on sale for 16,500
so a 00 z with 43: $18500
or a 01 ss with 30: $18000
sounds like a good deal to me, just now, can you afford it?

thanks for all the responses. Yeah, I've been shopping for a Z28/SS for a while now and was looking in the $13-15k range, but couldn't really find anything I trusted. I feel really good about this particular car and think the price is fair, so I'll probably do it since I have the $$$. Thanks again for the opinions.

That's a very fair price for a car that sounds like it has not had the **** beat out of it. Everone's looking to steal one, but usually the ones that go real cheap ALWAYS have issues...."You get what you pay for" usually comes down correctly. Best of luck. Car sounds straight, and has the right options. WJ

I wouldn't take the deal. IMO 30K is way too many miles to be paying that much for a Z. If it was a SS I might think it was a good deal. Think about it before you sign those papers cuz you don't want to get stuck with that car if you don't like it in the end.

If the car is in perfect condition, I am sure it is a good deal. 30,000 miles without taking taction control off one time seems like BS. Either that or he was banging gears with traction control on :/
17k for a 2000 z28 with 63,000 miles sounds high. My brother bought a 2000 SS for 13k with 43,000 miles.

I like the fact that he lives close, and I'd like to think my T/A is worth that but, my warranty goes to 100,000 miles. What's left on his?
It really depends on why you are buying it. If you are going to mod it, you'll be over the $20,000 mark fairly quickly. You could buy an f-body for a lot less, and use the savings for mods.
I'll bet he has a difficult time selling it at that price, especially this time of year. I'd wait, and keep looking. Tell him your interested at $16,500. He'll probabaly call you in a couple of months. Godd Luck

If you really trust the guy, I think it would be a good deal b/c I was looking to purchase an SLP SS and sell my car a few months ago, but it is just hard to find someone who wants to let it go.
But it all comes down to money. Can you (or are you willing) to afford it? By purchasing this you may have less money for mods as stated earlier, unlike if you just waited and bought a cheaper Z (Think about it: pick up a Z for 12-13K and put that extra savings into FI, when you get the car ready for it).
So my final verdict: if you plan on keeping the car for a long time, I would go with the SLP SS and just slowly mod it (after much research on the boards, I have done some costly mods in the past at which i deeply regreted).

Lucian,
I'm not going to mod it much, at least in the next 6 months, probably only a cutout, and yes, I do plan on keeping it for a while and eventually doing the cam/heads/headers/ect, but not until I graduate college in 6 months and start getting paid better. This is a second vehicle, so I want it to be very nice, while my Tacoma is my beat it up, day to day, miles eating vehicle. This SS will only come out on fair weather weekends, so I want it to be very nice and solid. I'm pretty sure that's what I'm getting with it.

thats not a bad price. most regular people that sell them try to ask for more than the book value.
