Strange "clunk" from a4 tranny?
Hello everyone! I used to post here before and have re-activated my account...Merry Christmas!
Anway, here's the problem:
My '98z28 was fine when I bought it with 19,000 miles a few years ago.
*****No torque converter installed.
Now, with 47,000 she's starting to make a strange "clunk" noise in the transmission. I can hear it and even feel it slightly when accelerating hard and then letting off the gas just before the tranny shifts from 2nd to 3rd.
And even when I'm driving normally, when I let off the gas it'll shift and "clunk" It started quietly and comes and goes.
Anyone know what this is?
The sound comes from the back of the car by the rear wheels I think
thank you!

A lot of people have that problem. GM considers it normal from what I hear.
My car does it, it comes from the servo area on mine.
I'm not too worried about it.
Letting off the gas right before it shifts causes the clearances in the trans mechanical parts to bounce off each other. For the lack of a better description.

so that's not a good thing, to accelerate and let off the gas right before the auto tranny shifts?
