Fram Air Hog.... Big mistake
I decided to get rid of the stock air filter and installed a Fram Air Hog. What a waste....... Guessing I lost 15 to 20 Hp. The car was a dog!! Automatic trans and it wouldn't even bark the tires shifting to second.. Put the paper back in and am smoking the tires again...

Fram/Allied Signal makes good products. They've been in the game longer than K&N. I've heard people complain about the same things with a K&N. Your computer will have to readjust for any changes in flow. I would trust a Fram unit before a K&N. I've never heard of any airfilter that would plus or minus you 20 something horsepower. It's just not done. If it is there's something else going on.

K&N conical filters (like on my 5.0), good. K&N flat-panel filters, bad. The K&N showed ZERO increase in HP on the dyno over the Fram paper, so I only use Fram papers now. Fits better, filters better and flows just as good... My $.02

i've run the fram airhog for 4 months now. when I installed it, there WAS a noticeable INCREASE in power. little noisier, but worth it. Dunno why a lot of people dont like them?!? also looks awesome under clear MTI lid. yeah I know rice rice rice blah blah blah but I like it alot.

i'll always use k&n filters, i've seen them work miracles. i run one on my 400ex, i've seen it clog up one half completly with dirt, and be eat-off-of clean on the inside. i've also seen some pretty outrageously dirty sprintcars that i've wrenched on, the airfilter look like someone gave it a rhino-lining coat on the outside with mud, and not be a spec of dirt on the inside, or anywhere.
i dont think our pavement pounders will have to worry about air filtration quality much anyway unless someone is doing the Dakar rally in a camaro ss

Thanks for all the input guys. I have been fooling with cars and trucks for 40 years (hence the name old man) and I have never seen this before. The motor was a dog. Back to paper filter and it was perfect.
