Default Raced a SLAMMED C5!

Finnally got a C5 driver to bite! And actually got a race. Seems it's always when I have a full tank of gas and the freaking tops off. This C5 was slammed to the ground. Had 98 5 spoke wheels on it, so I am assuming it was a 98 or 99. Sounded mod'd but not sure of what or how much. Light turns and I want to make sure he is going to run. He is.... I nail it , actually getting good traction. I launch, jump and run on the C5 getting a car on him. Slam 2nd gear and held my lead. Could feel the C5 on my quarter and tried to stretch 2nd as long as I could. I knew it was going to be close, very close. I hit my freaking rev limiter! I look down at the tach and just shook my head. Attempted to catch, but never did. Was happy with 1st trough 2nd gear performance. Thinking if my rev limiter was turned off, I would have blown the motor. It's difficult to control the adrenaline. All I can say is dang those C5's are light and quick. Don't make a single mistake when you run... They will eat your lunch.

Sounds like a very good run...he probably would have started pulling on you a little the higher you went since it was a Vette.

If you don't want that to happen again, get a shiftlight. It makes my shifting much more consistent, and I can look at the road instead of my tach. Best driving aide there is IMO. When it is time to shift, you know it in my car. Light is damn near blinding.

Nice death to the Vette. Why did you stop racing after your slip-up?

Ok, guess I gotta tell the rest of the story. I shifted to 3rd and did not start to catch until a second to two. Saw him shift and then I shifted. Ran outta road and I was at about 120 mph. I let off. He did the same. I gave thumbs up. He turned left and I turned right. Thanks for all the good feedback and y'all won't believe what happened a little later tonight on the same road going the opposite directrion. Gonna post a new thread because it's a good kill on a vette!!!!

Believe it or not, my SES light (AFR problem seems to have cleared up since I replaced my front O2 sensors. Go Figure). I put the SLP MAF back on but not the bellow. Car has run good tonight. Still having to save my pennies to get the reprogramming. Thinking we should run again just to see. Have you done anything additional to your C5?

Nice run. And yes, a shiftlight is an awesome addition to your dash. Without it, I'm a mess.

Speaking of shiftlights, do any other corvette drivers use the "SHIFT" message that comes up on the hud? I know I use it for 1st to 2nd, and I just use the tach for the rest of the shifts, as it slows way down and tells you to shift early from then on.

No shiftlight here. It's interesting that's for sure, especially when spraying. It's on the mod list.

Nice run with the 'vette. You might've held your ground if you didn't have any shifting issues.

I used the shift indicator in the hud on my vette. I comes on at 6000 and the stock rev limiter is at 6200.

I added a real shift light later because 6000 is too low.

Ok! I am definitely in agreement on the Shift light. Actually had a good couple of Runs with Baldurann this afternoon. All I can say is, there is a big difference in 2000 and older vettes and the 2001 & newer.

Here's the run down with baldurann today. (from my windshield anyway)
1st run: 20mph roll. He jumped and held a convincing lead.
2nd run: From the dig. I smoked my tires and hit the rev limiter. That's two days in a row. I laughed at myself: saw a big cloud of smoke behind me, caught up and baldurann was very cool about it. Very funny...
3rd run: basically from the dig: 1st, 2nd we were basically about even. 3rd, He pulls away and wins...

A 2000 WS6 joined for a little more fun when we had pulled over to talk.... We ran some more but traffic became an issue.

Honestly, I was happy with a better performance than the last time we raced. His car is fast for just a Zip & Corsa Cat Back. Could even be "gifted"

Question: I know they put LS6 intakes & blocks on 2001 & newer. Both F-Body's and Vettes. Is the only real difference between the Z06 & the rest the Valving or is there more?

Oh, and anyone have a spare LS6 intake they don't want anymore?
