1 insurance- will the car be in your name or hers?
2 No problems as of yet *knock on wood*
3 Damn with a lead foot, I'd say 14mpg
4 skip-shift is for the manuals, forcing you to go from 1st to 4th if you are going slow enough. WOT it doesn't apply.

Depends on her record but for Florida, I'd say anywhere from 100-150 a month. And she'll get a discount for multicar. Full coverage?

You'd probably get lucky for under 100. Maybe 85 a month for both vehicles.

1) insurance wont be too bad if its in her name.

2) Piston slap is about the only real problem you may encounter with an LS1.

3) I got about 17-18 with my WS6 (an automatic) when i drove less aggressive, about 14 when i put my foot into it.

4) skip shift is for manuals only, and its not very intrusive at all. Very easy to "drive around"

1. insurance is not that bad.
2. as long as its properly maintained, you wont realy have problems. except with window motors.
3. my milage with auto is usually 18-20 in town, and 20-27 on highway. and i usually have a heavy foot.
4. dint ask about skip shift for an auto, its an auto!

It's not "fixable" without a rebuild/rehone. It's nothing to worry about, on the cars that have it it's notmally only present until the engine warms up, then the noise goes away. Most LS1's have at least some slap.

hey guys, when the skip shift intrudes what does it do to the car?im looking at buying one and i don't want to test drive the car and not buy it thinking there is a tranny problem when there really isn't,is piston slap that normal in all of them? cause i would not want one with it,im also trying to get rid of a 5.0 to get the ls1.

it locks out the gear to where you can ONLY go into 4,5,6 from 1st...it's only at a given speed, rpm level, and pedal level....such as if you are just cruising at like 15mph, 3000rpms, 1st gear...you go to shift you will have to go into at least 4th gear...all you have to do is either shift earlier or hit the gas a little and shift into second...if it gets annoying...search for the skip shift blocker or elimator or whtaever it is like a 50cent fix...

It doesn't "lock" out anything. There is a solenoid that prevents you from going into second. the shifter is "forced" into 4th. Honestly the skip shift isn't that intrusive, i rarely encounter it. And even when i do i can drive around it. If you wait for about 2 seconds second gear becomes available. What i do when it kicks in is just shift to third, doesn't bog the car down as much, and still saves on gas. Shifting from 1 to 3 has become my normal routine now, and it is working out nicely.

locking out second gear would be the same as not being able to shift into it
