Default Headers and Cut-out

Is longtubes with a cutout on the stock exhuast kind of lame or will it sound good and perform with decent numbers, or should i get exhuast and then save up again for headers

LT's with a good y-pipe and a cutout will go faster than only a catback.
If sound quality is what you want, get a catback first (cutouts only sound good at idle with a cammed car, or at WOT- they sound like a dump truck at part throttle).

Speed- LT's and Cutout
Sound- Catback

Or you can get an electric cutout and toggle between your stock catback and an open cutout.

LT's + cutout are a better foundation for future modding than a catback.

I AGREE, i think you should get the lt's and a cutout...then when you have the money you can get true duals...

No, I did the same thing and it worked.......

1. Sept. 2003 - Cutout right before the stock muffler....40 bucks and sounded better than any catback with stock manifolds, cats and Y. Always ran with it open full time.
2. Feb. 2004 - Added Kooks LTs and ORY with cutout on stock muffler......Cutout closed....ridiculously QUIET....cutout open....ridiculoulsly LOUD. Night and Day differences
3. Aug - 2004 Custom made SS duals....sounds superb....sold ORY for little less than purchased.

Bottom line is, I read and learned alot from folks here and relized a common pitfall was changing exhausts because of unhappiness with sound, performance, longevity, etc.. I didn't want to waste money trying diff. ones so I planned out my step accordingly.

If TSP duals were out when I purchased my headers I would have probably just would have wen't directly to them instead of the ORY in step 2.

Good Luck

Thumbs up

I love that set up, stock cat back with long tubes and ORY with cut out, very stealthy and makes the power when needed.
Look into the QTP cut outs, they WORK.
