Default 90mm LSX worth any hp on 346 h/c car

I have a 78mm lsx and 80mm BBK TB with stage II 5.3 heads and 230-230 .597 cam. Car is still going together (69 camaro) Is it worth trading up to a 90mm LSX and TB or will there be little to no gain. I have to stop the bleeding somewhere and would like to stay with my present combo unless there is a good justification to change. Anyone changed?

There are some gains to be had with the 90/90 (10-15ish ponies over an ls6), but if your money is tight, the 78/80 combo should do fine.

Default 90mm

I have the LSx 78 now. Trying to decide if another $500 (send the 78 lsx back and trade up on 90..$500 on the 90mm TB)is worth 10 or so HP. I have been building this car for 3 years and I am in deep. $500 is no big deal in the grand scheme of things, but not sure if 10 hp is worth it on the combo. Thanks for the input.

In my survey of dyno results, I've seen more in the way of a 20hp gain on serious H/C cars. This will amount to very little on the dragstrip vs. your current setup or vs. a ported stock TB and an LS6 intake. Looks good on paper, but the TB/Intake combo costs north of $1000 and you might gain a .1 sec in the 1/4 mile.

it is definatly not worth the extra 500$ for maybe 5-10 hp...i don't think it is worth it to go with a fast intake unless you are running big cubes...the ls6 is sufficient

like everyone has said, i'd only do it on a pretty stout setup. on a mild h/c car, i don't see the gain being worth the money

JS has a mild H/C setup (S1 heads, 224/224 cam) and picked up .16 and 2.1 mph in the 1/4 mile. Pretty good gains IMO.

IMO, if the car is being built to be a driver. The 78mm isn't gonna hurt anything. The motor will make great power with it.

If you decide in the future to get more hardcore about racing, you can make the jump to a 90mm.

I do have stage 2 heads but I have a mild cam-B1 221/221 - .559/.559 and I gained 27rwhp & 13rwtq over my LS6 intake and ported T/B. So IMOP I say it is worth the gain's.

I'd also value some more input. I have a H/C set-up with the LS6 and ported stock TB and was wondering about an upgrade...

If you can do it now, do it. In the future you might go bigger in cubes and have to pay alot more to go up in the intake. I went 90mm all the way with my H/C Auto and don`t regret one min. When I spray her she really shows off!!! I plan on a iron 408 in the future, maybe even one of the new LS2 blocks and a big shot of spray. Thats why I bought everything to go with it. Now all I need is a long block stroked out
