Need help with fans!
Hey everyone.
I am having a hell of a time tracking down an electrical problem.
I have a 2001 Z28 Camaro with a GWP (ATI) stage II procharger system on it. The fan system is modified as it uses a single fan with modifications to the stock wiring. The fan wires have been spliced and converted to work with a single fan setup.
A few months ago, the pendulum(sp?) on the blower came loose allowing the fan wires to be sucked into the blower head unit. Prior to this happening everything worked well.
Now I get two codes P0480 and P0481.
I have done the following to solve the problem:
1. Checked the relays via a 9volt battery and continuity tester (all three seem to work).
2. Used jumper cables to see if the fan motor worked. (It did).
3. Rewired the fans based on the ATI procharger manual for the third time.
4. Checked socket 1 for all three relays in the fuse panel. Fan 2 relay does not have continuity in socket 1 (which may be due to the fan modification and is supposed to be that way).
My guess is the problem is located in the circuit itself (the wire).
1. The fan wire(s) are exposed causing a short. I checked the wires up to the harness.
2. The PCM is bad.
3. Loose connection.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
I am thinking that I might just run a manual fan switch (fans on high all the time) until I can figure out where the problem is.
Sincerely
Ian
