Default differences between 6 cylinders and ls1's

sup guys. i have a 99 v6 camaro right now. and its almost payed off which means if i wanted i could drop some cash into this thing and i don't mean on the 6 cylinder hehe. i just need to know some of the differences on the car that i'd need to change. im lookin at some nice stroker shortblocks. i understand that the ecu is more then likely different...driveshaft for sure and my 5-speed tranny prolly won't work either. are the motor mounts different? i've been told they more then likely are the same. i already have an idea of what imma do rear end wise with the differential and axles. any info or advice would help

I think the mounts are different, besides that I think you got it. Someone on here did that same thing a while back. He had a NBM camaro.

its alot more than you think. would be cheaper to sell your car and use that money that you have to buy a new car.

diffeences are more than the motor mounts.. I believe you need the k member and mounts to put an LS1 in there. Also the gauges, ECM, radiator, fans, exhuast, tranny. the Driveshaft will be different if your V6 has the 2 piece one. Its easy to spot if you look under the car as the 2 piece will be attached to the torque arm in the center. I'd just leave the stock rearend for now and save up for a 12 bolt or 9" rear. stockers even heavily built an dmoded can't handle slicks and high hp. imo.. because the values for f-bodys are completely in the toilet right now and you are looking to build some good power with a stroker motor right from the start you would be better off keeping the car and doing the v6-Ls1 swap.

here is Magnus's site..

You could just mod your V6. My friend's car runs 13.3's @ 102 at a high elevation track. He will easily be in the 12s at sea level. It's a basic heads/cam/headers v6 with minor suspension mods. Here's his mod list. http://www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98/modifications.htm It's alot cheaper than an LS1 swap.

I'm doing an LS1 swap right now and I've spent a lot more than I wanted to/hoped to. Have you thought about selling that car, and using the money you get from it towards a newer LS1 car?

i actually thought about the V6 to LS1 conversion, i used to have a V6, after thinking about it long and hard, so much cheaper to trade in the V6 for the LS1, i did it and im so much happier i didnt spend so much money on the conversion, on the other hand i would love to be able to say that my car used to be a V6 and I made it better

believe me i know what your talkin about, thats why i am doin my swap right now, well i am done with the swap, now getting the body put back together. but the fact is, if i would have known that it was gonna cost this much, i would have just waited later on in life to do this project and bought a ls1 car. and besides most people wont even know that the car was originally a 6, and then when you do tell them that it was a 6... they will think it will just bolt right in there, and not really appreciate what your doing. but i mean if the guy has LOTS of money and time then go ahead and do it, but if not, just go get a ls1 car and be done with it!

What about picking up a totalled LS1 car that's been wrecked in the *** end or the side, but the drivetrain is still in tact? Then you could just swap everything over instead of hunting for everything all over the place...and still be paying insurance rates on a V6 car

I don't think I would want to use parts from a totaled car. You never know what weaknesses they might have from damage that isn't apparent.

i would just sell the v6 and buy the ls1 car. a z28 or formula could be found for under $10k.

Two problems: previously mentioned lack of knowledge/coverage, and insurance fraud.

well thanks for all the info guys. actually after looking around for a couple days..i realized that doing what i wanted with the car would be a waste of money. it'd actually be cheaper to do the 84 short bed chevy in my backyard. has a fresh tranny with about 3k miles on it..motor just doesn't run. and i found a 383 shortblock for 900 bucks. so i might persue that. and get a z28 or ta..or maybe even a newer chevy truck as a daily and put a few lil toys on em.
