if you want 6's you better look into a bigblock. ls1's havent advanced that far quite yet, they are just getting to where they can probably go 7's. give it af few years though and id say yea, we are progressing very quickly
unless ofcourse your thinking of puting it on a dragster than a 7 is easy.

You would be hard pressed to get a big block chevy into the 6's let alone an LS1. Perhaps a 700+ cubic inch big block with a ton of nitrous. It certainly wouldn't be a car in any kind of street trim and it sure as **** wouldn't be cheap.
In a 3000lb car you would need a minimum of 1200 horsepower to the tires to make 7's then add at least another 500 horsepower to dip into the 6's. A big block chevy would be a better platform to start with but you'll be spending a ton of money either way.
The other option would be to build yourself a 2000lb door stop on wheels, drop in a turbo/supercharged 420somethin cubic inch LS1 making about 1200hp to the tires and you might get sixes.
If this is a serious question, I hope you've done a lot more research on the subject other than one post on an internet board.

Give it a little more time 6's WILL happen. Probably not stock suspension but they will come. I am pretty sure LS1's could run 6's right now in the right car. Picture this: A C5R motor in a tube chassis car with a heathy shot of nitrous. I say nitrous because that is what the car I have in mind will be using, but boost would get you there as well. OOps cats out of the bag.

6.90s in the 1/4 with a big block chevy NA isn't hard to do, if you have the budget, look at the pro stock class, they're going 6.65ish at 207+ with NA 500 CI big blocks, not bad, but they are a tube chasis launching at 5000+rpm also...

I think 7's w/ ls1 based motor is definately possible. 6's are difficult with about anything. A 400"+ motor and 90mm+ turbo and 7's are just a descent chasis away. Slap a big 106mm on it and a 2600# car and you might get a six.

it takes less than most people think to go fast....common sense and patience are the two most important things....well those and $$ but i've gone pretty fast before with a relatively small investment.
