View Full Version : Quad Cities Area members thread

Hey guys, I thought we could use a thread to post in whenever we we're planning on hitting the track or if we wanted to see about getting together to cruise.

If QC area members check in and subscribe to the thread then we can bump it in the spring and get together at Cordova or something.

I plan on trying to get some members together at least once or twice. What I want to do is have us meet up for some food and maybe cruise a little afterwards to kill some time (and some ricers and stangs) and then hit Cordova when they have Midnight Mayhem. Does anyone remember this from last year? I heard the radio ads but I didnt get to go. I think they did a couple times to *perhaps* try to avoid having kids race on the streets. I just thought it would be great for some cool air runs. And if any punks try to run their mouths we'd be at the track so they can put up or shut up! :eyes:

I need a damn helmet!

That all sounds pretty good to me. Some of my buddies and I like to cruise a lot during the warmer nights. The cars consist of an LS1 Z28, few LT1's (T/A, Formula or two, Z28 or two, etc) and some Mustangs sometimes (yeah I know, but they're buddies of ours, and muscle is better than rice). But the cruising before going to Cordova for a Midnight Mayhem sounds awesome.

Sterling checking in.

I've been to most of the midnight mayhems. Nothing fancy. The track isn't really prepped, just whatever's left over from Friday's racing.

There aren't many fast cars there. They started splitting up domestics and imports for their fastest street car trophies or whatever they do because the fastest imports were trapping at 101ish.

Usually there are a handful of V8's on nitrous that are the fastest cars trapping in the 120's. That's it.

I use trap numbers because they don't display times at midnight mayhem, in order to protect whatever dignity the import guys think they have. You do get a regular timeslip with your time however.

The crowd is fairly young as you'd expect. The cars are 90% p.o.s. Freaks show up with Escorts with the hood removed, orange and green neon scattered about, uglified vinyl graphics, monster tachs in Civics, you name it. It's like the dirtball version of F&F.

But I go because I need the practice, and if you stay the whole night, you can get a lot of runs in as the crowd thins later on.

muscle is better than rice

Isnt that the 11th commandment or something? :D

Absolut speed, from what you said about midnight mayhem, it sounds HILARIOUS. Test n tune / midnight mayhem, I'll try to make it out whenever I can.

Midnight Mayhem really is a fun event. Nothing there is ever all that modified, but it's fun. It's split up into 3 sections: muscle, ricers (there is usually never any classy/normal imports/sport compacts there, just ricers), and "normies" who bring their boring cars for the hell of it. But again, it really is fun.

One thing that really bites about Midnight Mayhem though, besides the shitty track prep, is the "heads up racing". Instead of the Christmas tree counting down, it's just stage, wait a random amount of seconds, and go. Midnight Mayhem's aren't the best for getting great reaction times or 60's because you usually jump and spin, but it's still a blast.

And like Absolut speed said: I'm pretty sure they don't post up the times on the time boards because of all the ricers there and how sad it is to view so many 16-18 second ET's while they go off and brag about it. But it's great for entertainment and comedy.

absolut_speed
01-06-2005, 10:18 AM
Yeah, the "heads-up" sucks. If you really want to torture yourself, you can opt for a flag start too.

As for the normies, it is amazing what shows up in that respect too. I've seen minivans, a dually, a contractor's truck with ladder rack, etc.

In a way it is amusing, but after the first 5 minutes, amusing becomes disturbing and 5 minutes after that it becomes annoying. It leaves me thinking about why on earth kids are dumb enough to drop hundreds each on aluminum wings, graphics, composite hoods, neons etc when they could have just spent a little extra up front and bought a Fbody that would run circles around them.

I think they need to do a bit more policing though. Some jerk was doing neutral drops with a rental car in the middle of the staging lanes last year. How stupid is that? It wasn't one time thing either. He did it repeatedly. Same guy was revving it and bouncing it off the limiter continuously. He could have f'd up and it the car in front of him, blown the motor and caused an oily mess in the lanes or whatever else.

TransAm52804
01-06-2005, 10:14 PM
I remember that jerkoff too. Wasn't he in a Focus or something? If it's the same guy you're talking about, then that same guy entered the burnout contest but couldn't even get teh wheels to spin. That car was probably royally messed up, mechanically, after that night.

And I don't understand why the ricers with all the wings, decals, subs, etc, even bother going to the dragstrip. Their cars are slower with all those items than when they were stock, because of all the added weight. Plus if the wings even ARE functional, then the downforce created by the wings would only slow the car down once it starts goin' past 50-ish m.p.h., because downforce is drag, and drag hinders acceleration.

Annoying? The ricers and idiots are, yeah. But it's still fun.

LSWannabe

So with heads up racing, you pull up to the line and then wait for the light to instantly go green with no warning? I guess that will test your "reaction" time. I'll have to laugh at some of those ricer clowns. I see em everywhere I go. Just be careful they might have NAWZZ!

How much did you guys pay for your helmet?

absolut_speed
01-07-2005, 03:34 AM
I think it was a Focus (or a contour maybe) and yeah, he was the one in the burnout contest.

And you've got the heads up part right.

If you're wondering about a helmet for Cordova, they ask me if I have one, but they've never made me wear one there at Midnight Mayhems.

Have you guys ever considered autocrossing? The local SCCA group holds about 10 a year. I've been running with them for two full years and would encourage you to try it out. www.sccagrr.com

I'm not in the Quad Cities, but I have been up to Cordova. Hopefully I will be up there quite a bit this year. I just went to one of the last test & tunes they had on a Saturday afternoon last year.

I thought the track prep was pretty good, considering I was on nearly bald Kumhos and I had no issues with wheelspin.

I can't wait to get up there this year. Hopefully I will have a few "goodies" to try out.

I will be moving to the Quad Cities in a month. I would enjoy going to the track with a bunch of people. Where I went to college we had a track 10 miles away from us and it was so convenient(MO-KAN)!

I'm sure I'll need a helmet for test and tune days. Hopefully I can get one for a decent price. I barely glanced at the summit catalog and the cheapest ones were about 200 bucks!

The only tires I'll be running are Joke-o-hama ES100's. So I'll do what I can to avoid spinning. :burn: I call them skinnyhama's, they've got a decent tread pattern though.

I got a hell of a deal on my helmet. I went with my g/f to her Junior year prom last May (of '04), and the after party was held at the school (lame). Anyways, towards the end, they raffled off a bunch of prizes, and two of the prizes were badass motorcycle/full-face racing helmets. Two guys that me and my friend with a Formula knew, won them. So after the raffling, we asked them what they were gonna do with them (they weren't into cars) and they said probably just take it to a pawn shop. So we offered them $50 and they said sure! I love my helmet. It's orange and yellow with chains on it (truelly badass). I'll post a pic of it here soon.

Anyways, yeah it'd be badass if we all got together at Cordova during the test and tunes and Midnight Mayhems to create a little mayhem of our own. :burn:

Also, absolut speed, I'm probably gonna join the Great River Region SCCA this year. Even though I really prefer big, open, fast road courses, I'm gonna give auto-xing a shot. My mom ran into one of the GRRSCCA head ladies at the Kohl's in Bettendorf, and they got to talking which lead to them talking about me and auto-xing. So I'll be getting more info as Spring draws closer and will then join. Lookin' forward to it!

Edit* Here's a tiny pic (only one I could find) of my exact helmet. It's a GREX GO6 99:
http://www.motorcyclegearreview.com/images/grex-go6.jpg
The orange and yellow are much deeper than what's shown in the pic. But yeah, for freakin' $50, I got a hell of a deal, and it's comfortable with mouth and head vents (both can be opened and closed).

hey lswannabe i met you at advanced autoparts a couple weeks ago on 23rd ave. i know some fbody guys in moline that would prob like to get together. ill have to get a new car first since i totaled mine last thursday on the 74 bridge. it sucks but i consider myself lucky to have walked away with minor injuries. im wishin i did like you and parked it for the winter. :bang:
but on the brighter side i can get the color i always wanted now, SOM. im already lookin at a few cars and will be back in a fbody within 8 wks. prob have to put the 402 plans on hold till summer though after i transfer all the suspension and driveline to the new car AGAIN. :judge:

Like I said in my PM man that sucks. I hope you come across a nice find!

I roll my shitty winter car without shame, but it really sucks. The damn thing is an 88 toyota corolla w/ a 2 bbl carb, A3, no overdrive. It needs to be tuned. I picked it up cheap (obviously) and it's reliable/heater works good. But gawd that car is a joke.

You looking for another WS6? It sucks about having to hold out on the 402 but at least for now I'll remain visible in your rear view. Instead of becoming a distant spec!

Transam52804, that helmet is tight! (for $50!!!!)

Yeah, I love it. It's comfortable too. Plus, I searched around and I woulda ended up spending between $150-$200 for it had I bought it from a shop instead of offering the kid $50!

But then I drive the Formula through the crap, which is always an adventure. :)

God I LOVE your Firehawk, and guys believe me, it's hotter in person (I know, hehe). Do you recall how much it cost to get your lower bumper painted black like the CETA? Because I've been planning for about 4 months now to have my bumper painted like that in the spring time.

absolut_speed
01-12-2005, 10:25 AM
The T/A Firehawk is an 02, the Formula is an 01.

There was an incident with the garage door catching the rear bumper, which is why it's painted. Oh well, it gave the car some uniqueness, especially amongst Firehawks. I had some other little stuff done at the same time, but I imagine the bumper portion was around $200.

The Formula I just got last month. It was a leased car that got voluntarily repo'd in Denver, CO, hence the Colorado temp tag in the photo. Since the Firehawk seems to be doing a decent job of holding its value, and since I take it to things like the Firehawk Rally, I just felt bad about racing it all the time, whether it was at Road America or autocross or whatever. I didn't feel bad about flogging it, I felt nervous about doing something to it that I'd regret involving a tire wall or something! That, and it was hard to keep it neat with all the brake dust and cone scuffs it was picking up on the paint. So I started looking for a Formula to autocross in a stock class. This one popped up for the right price (and only had 13,000 miles), so now it's my daily driver and autocross car. The Firehawk will get cruising, show, and maybe drag race duties.

If you're a hardtop and relatively stock (I think as long as you're not in the 11's), then you won't need a helmet. T-top cars are required to have one though. I just rented one there (I wasn't sure how picky they would be, but I now know that any of my helmets would have worked). It was like either $2 or $5 and they hold onto your DL until you return it.

TransAm52804
01-13-2005, 09:44 PM
You have to have a helmet if A: you have TTops or convertible, and/or B: your car is 13.99 seconds or faster. So unless you're in a 4th Gen hardtop and you don't know how to drive  , you'll need a helmet.

LSWannabe
01-14-2005, 05:59 AM
If I can rent one there, then I'll at least be able to do that until I can shop around and pick one up of my own.

I'll do my best to represent on some driving skills. I do not plan on powershifting. You must remember though I never knew how do drive a stick until the day before I bought my car.(october '04) So once spring arrives I'll be back in it working on what skill I do have. I know hitting 13's wont be a prob once I get the hang of taking off.:drive:

Bettendorf checking in. Thanks for the heads up LSWannabe.

I don't post on this site much, I'm more of an LS2 poster....

I'd be up for some get togethers though. I hit midnight mayhem 2 years ago, an they were running water boxes but you had to run street tires. There was no way to drive around the boxes, so after 3 runs of wailing my tires I packed it up and went home.

I see quite a few f-bods cruising around the QC's when the car is out, and I see too many driving around in the mess like we've had the past couple of weeks. You guys are crazy.

My babies a black 02 t/a and my beaters a 92 f-150 rollin on 31.5's.

I also need to rebuild the tranny this winter spring, so if anybody has any advice experience or ideas feel free to chime in.

Later,
J

Hopefully they've changed it so you can drive around the water. I dont plan on pouring smoke off my skinnyhama's. I need those things to last a decent amount of miles.:drive::burn:

I ran my POS winter car down to just fumes on the way to work today. Luckily my work shares a parking lot with a gas station. The car kept dying while I tried to get it to the pump.:bang:Got gas in it now though, try to avoid that shit happening again.

BTW, IT'S FREEEEZING!

What are the dates for Midnight Madness? I will be at Cordova quite a few times this summer for testing, and a few of us on the team are usually looking for stuff to do when we are finished. I've heard that Daisy Dooks is pretty wild, and might have to check that out.

LSWannabe
01-29-2005, 01:41 AM
I'm not sure about the dates. Possibly someone else may know, I'd just suggest contacting the Cordova office. If you find out, post them up on here.

The Dooks is always pretty good. I was there relatively recently, my friend and I went since he was moving. Most of the ladies are pretty choice, you get a stage seat and it's $1 for titties in your face. Also it's $1 for short lap dances when the girls are walking around and "marketing" themselves. What I'm referring to is when they try to talk you into getting a private dance for $25. I personally have never gotten a private dance, but when I was there I found out that Private dances are now "Touch", if you know what I mean.:naughty: The only real downside is the $10 cover and it's BYOB(cans only).

I've seen lots of people blow major cash in there. I never do because I dont get "stupid drunk". Actually I really dont drink much at all. You could take the cash you would spend at the Dooks, and go to the Isle of Capri (Riverboat). Then, if you do really well, go to the Dooks afterwards.:D

Sandmann120
01-29-2005, 03:06 AM
There is a 'gentleman's club' in Des Moines runnnig under the name of The Lumberyard that is owned by the same people as Dooks. I've closed it more times than I care to think about. I've heard about Dooks, and the reputation, just never made it there. Usually spend nights at Cordova thrashing to fix what got fucked up earlier in the day so that the car is ready in the morning. But, occasionally we have time, just don't know the area.

I didnt go today. It's tomorrow and sunday at the rivercenter. I dont know exactly what will be there. Ford GT is for sure, then probably a C6, 05 GTO, Magnum, 300C, 05 stang GT, maaybe a 05 viper, doubtful that the charger will be there. (Some of these are boring I know.) But again I am only guessing, I do not know for sure. I'll probably go anyway tomorrow.

April is when the Test and Tunes start back up at Cordova. It's nice because it's warm out, but it sucks because it's so damn humid which kills performance.

Well my tranny is now sitting on my work bench in the garage.

Bought an adapter kit for my floor jack, cost $40, and worked fairly well. Now to decide whether to rebuild it myself or find someone with a little more experience to do it..... anybody have any thoughts?

Oh, that must be the one that was on the cover of R&T or MT (I forget) but the cover pic showed the porche along side the SLR McLaren and the Enzo. For some reason I thought that it was called the GT2.

When are we getting together for Cordova? I'm trying to get some dates figured out for this summer, and between our Fueler, National Guard Drills, and a few weddings, most of my weekends are pretty well booked. Lets get something figured out. I know we will test some at Cordova, but mostly at Earlville, so maybe I'll just bring the Z and do a few runs in between passes. Just as long as we don't blow shit up.

LSWannabe
03-25-2005, 10:20 AM

Sandmann, your selling your Z? I thought you just got it.

Sandmann120
03-25-2005, 03:30 PM
I did, but I'm thinking about selling it. Not sure if I want to dump money into it, or sell it and get something else to go nuts with. I've thought about picking up a V6 vert F-body to drop my 377 and TH400 into. I love my Z, I just have to decide which route to take. I figure it might be better to sell it now, stock, than to dump a few grand into it and then decide I want to sell it. I've had a few offers on trades, but nothing really appealing as yet. I had planned to sell my Roadie wagon, but as it turns out, we are going to use it this year on the team, chase vehicle. DAMNIT, I don't know what to do.

Sandmann120
03-30-2005, 03:26 PM
For those who care, we will be at Cordova in 3-4 weeks for testing. I'll let you know when it gets closer, but we have a brand new car being finished right now, and plan to be able to get some bugs sorted out. If everything is going smooth, look for a low 6 or possibly a high 5 pass. If anybody is interested, let me know so that I can be watching for you, and I might bring my Z to get a few baseline runs.

Only thing though: do you want to wait until I have all the cash in hand, or pay you in payments of say $100 a week, or something or other. I wouldn't blame you for not wanting to sell it unless all the money is in your hand right away, but I just got a bunch of bills thrown at me after getting back from vacation this past Sunday, so having 9 days off work (unpaid) and a crappy-hour week this week (getting back onto normal hours after being off usually takes a week at Menards) is gonna throw my money situation off about a week or so from when you remove that intake.

However you wanna go about it is fine with me: I just hope that if it comes to having to wait it out a week or two, you'll hold out and not sell it 'cuz I know the LS6's are in high demand. Maybe I'll give you a down payment. :jest:

I would take the slave line off and with someone in the car and slave full of fluid, hold the "ball" open on the end of the line and have the helper push the pedal down and hold it,then release the ball.Continue untill air dosent come out anymore.Attach the line and continue the same practive with the bleeder on the slave.I bled my master/line in a vice after a drill mod and installed it with no bleeding, the "pumping" of a pedal makes the air bubble break up and makes for a harder bleed procedure..Good luck

Yeah not bad, but you got to get those 12s with the lid and cat-back. I recently did LCAs and sub-frames on the Camaro but not much else. I did dyno it though, on motor it did 330 rwhp and 345 rwtq and then on a 500 psi bottle and a 75 shot it did 385 rwhp and 430 rwtq. I was hoping for 400 rwhp with a nice 1200 psi bottle, I guess I'll find out.

We were parked at K-Mart hiding from Johnny Law, so the chances of you seeing us was pretty small. We are out just about every weekend so stop by and say hello. Either it will be my Mustang or my Pewter 02 Z28 or the two black WS.7s (I quess Ill be technical here). Also could be a black 90 LX hatch with a NOTAGT 2 license plate.

Ever wonder who did those donuts in front of the Menlo building down at the Airport?

At one time when I was still working for Menlo there was the Pewter 01 Z28 that works at Danzas then my Pewter 02 Z28 and then yours showed up at the next building over. I was starting to think it was an LS1 convention at the Air Frieght terminal.

The site told me I had a false login?

We ended up chasing down some dork in a 5.0L with the NAWSSS. He thought he was bad driving all the way from Muscatine for a piece. Too bad he got drug and had to drive home all upset.

After that some dude in a 2nd Gen 300 ZX decided he'd follow me down to JD and act tough.

So as you can see we got kind of busy. But if you us see throw a wave or rev or whatever, we are always looking for new faces.

Truthfully we usually go out to Iowa for the racing action. JD road yielded up plenty of drag-racing tickets for our group last year, so we usually try and stay away from it.

I saw those marks.:burn: Figured it was someone who didnt work there. I never saw your car but I see the one at Danzas.

I'll look for you when I'm up on the ave.

Bam Bam, if you get the tuner for 02's I'll need my fans set so I can install my 160*. I was going to ask Glenn where he had that vinci tune done at so I could have them set my fans, I dont know what they'd charge though.

They gave me the same shit, except mine's not snell-rated at all. It's a brand-new crotch rocket helmet... so wouldn't you think if it's safe enough for riding on an open vehicle like a motorcycle, that it'd certainly be safe enough for a fuckin' enclosed vehicle like a car? I was and still am pretty pissed about it.

I think I'm gonna take the snell sticker off my motocross helmet and put it on my racing helmet. Hell, I've used it all last year and they never said anything up until this past weekend.

I think, and hope, they were just anal about everything because it was opening weekend, and that they'll ease up the rest of the year. Oh, I've also gotta get a "better fitting battery or modify the holder to fit" cuz mine wiggles. :bang: :bang: :bang:

I'm just more pissed about the helmet issue. It's ridiculous IMO.

The vinci tuner is actually a programmer marketed by crane, same thing different sticker. It is 1 car at a time use and its well worth the money once you go cam and bolt-ons.Not to knock down your thermo choice but I think a 180* is better for these motors, they make the best power around 190-200.I have a 178* that keeps the car around 185-190 depending on the weather. That 04 Z06 ran the 11.9 stock after a hot lap.

Trust me, if I were able to go I would have, but I had to work and my car needs alignment (it pulls to the left, and while I'm sure it wouldn't have made a HUGE difference in handling, I wouldn't wanna lap the car unless the alignment was perfect).

And yes, I definitely know our cars can handle. There are also plenty of articles to prove it. Hell, if Steve Millen can compliment a 2001 SS as well as to say it handles great, feels very planted, and can lap in it all day long... than that should be good enough right there lol.

Glenn,

I knew it was a handheld. Did someone have it? Or was it at the place where you were dyno'd?

About the thermo, could I set my fans at a temp where it would be earlier than normal but not so early as to drop it below 185*? I've still got the stat in the box, I thought most people were running 160*'s so I picked it up at the speed inc open house.

I posted a call out on SVT for that guy with the teal sn95 GT we saw drive through whiteys Friday. I dont know if anyone on that site knows him but I gave it a shot. Man, we really need to work on getting all of us together at the track on the same night.

Can everyone make it to Midnight Mayhem on the 27th? Unless people are working super early that following Saturday, I think that'd be the best way to work the track into all of our work schedules so we can all be there at the same time. Plus, we've gotta represent American muscle seeing as how the Midnight Mayhem's are leaning more and more towards the sport compacts each time.

There was one time last year, I was waiting in tech, and some douchebag comes up, looks at my engine (the hood was up for tech), looks back at this guy's modified Talon (with an Eclipse rear end) and then goes to me, "I bet that car (Talon) will smoke you", and I just gave him a stupid look and said "Uhhh alright?", thinking OK so maybe it will, maybe it won't, but who the fuck is this idiot?

So I line up against the Talon thinking I'm about to get whooped, and low and behold, not only do I surprisingly outlaunch him (yeah, I get 2.1 60's for my best lol), but I pulled on his ass the whole way down the 1/4. The dumbass who called me out, never came around after that lol. And that was only when I was running 13.3's and 13.4's. Now I'm down to consistent 13.1's and .2's.

Ryan knows the guy, he just helped him with something on his car. Ill have to ask him about it.

Yeah L Box (Lunchbox) he's friends with Danny and those guys. I have talked to him a few times and was over at his house eariler this week figuring out his clutch problem. I pulled up to him at a light in the Mystic and he told me that he'd "give me a couple car lengths head start" I laughed. :jest: That's pretty rude to give someone the thumbs down just because they don't drive a Mustang. His car is basically stock, just 3.55's and exhaust,CAI and maybe a upgraded MAF meter. Nothing drastic, A stock LS1 would walk on him hard!!

Jamie, got the car back from Ford today, of course they decided it looked much better with scrathes on the wheels and THE PAINT :punch: Then they had the nerve to tell me that their tech's are "very good at owning up when the've done something" (yeah he's right i know if i scratched a $600 a pint paint and dented and scrathed wheels that are over $550 a piece i'd sure own right up)

Jesus what stealership did you go to?!? Youve got to start taking before and after pictures with a paint-job like that.

Yeah I know what you mean about the rain I finally swapped the head-units for the S-Trim and this is what I get. Ben wanted my 30# injectors since apparantly thats his problem on the top-end so I had to install my 42#s, so I figured while I was at it Id swap the head-units as well.

Man talk about a difference, that S is so much more efficient even in low rpm than the A was. I cant believe with just a blower swap how much different my car feels. Im seeing 9#s at 3k rpm on up to 15# at 5500. Im thinking I better pulley down however. The dude I bought the pullies off of swore up and down they were the stock ones from Vortech and would only see 8-10 on a stock motor. Im thinking he had bigger plans for me.

Sweet! Nice 60', those mickeys do the job.:D

I know the T56 calls for dexron 3 but guys with '01 and '02's run sychro and love it. The pre '01's have paper blocker rings and sychromesh is bad but the 01/02's have carbon blocker rings and it wont hurt them. I think I may just get dexron 3 for this fluid change. Then the next time I do a fluid change the car wont be under warrany anymore so I might try sychromesh. I'm thinking I should stick with dexron this time because if I make a claim on the tranny and the wrong fluid is in it, they wont cover it. I wouldnt worry about it except when the car is moving in first it makes a noise, it doesnt matter if the gear is engaged or not. If I'm rolling with the clutch in and put it in the first position it still makes the noise. I will show you when I come out there.

I cant wait for midnight mayhem. It will be my first track experience and good for a laugh or two.:jest:

Cordova charges $5 and your drivers license to rent one. They only have two so get there quick.

I really wouldnt go to Midnight Mayhem as your first experience. They do absolutly no track prep so you will never get a good time and its always PACKED you might get two runs in, but dont count on it. Go to a test and tune 5-10 Fridays or 12-5 Saturdays, you will be much happier.

Fridays havent been good since the earliest I leave DHL is 8:30. I figure it'd be a waste of time to get out to the track @ 9:00 if they stop running at 10:00. I'll try to get out to a test n tune on a saturday if possible, but I'm still going to midnight mayhem.

Great times Mark, very impressive. 120 is gettin with it.Checked on a cage yet????hahahaha

I won 1st round with a .010 light but he popped a red and I ran thru with 12.08 on a 12.15. I left at 4500 and spun. Next round I went back to how I used to launch with nitto's,a kind of slip and dump and netted a 1.77.I could feel it was a good pass and ran it thru giving him a win.I approached the timing shack pretty nervous and got rewarded with the slip I was looking for. I'm very happy with this car.

Yes, the track prep for Midnight Mayhem sucks, but 2 runs?!?!?! Maybe if you're the early to bed sort. I've been to at least 4 and after 2am, things start to really thin out. After 3am, you can almost run continuously. I've gotten as many as 8 runs in a night, most after 2am.

:stupid: I get plenty of runs at Midnight Mayhems. The only downfall to MM besides the orgy of ricers, is the lack of decent track prep, as previously mentioned. If you go there, go there with the mentality of having a fun night of racing, not the mentality of "I'm gonna work on getting my best times tonight", because it pretty much will not happen.

IMO, the Midnight Mayhems are a blast as long as you don't have to work early that Saturday.

besides the orgy of ricers,

The sad (mabe good?) psrt of the ricers is how pathetic they are. Typical crap with cf hoods, or neon lights. Big wheels, lowered, no grip or speed. It's amusing. I can't believe many have the guts to be seen with most of their own cars in public.

I was there. TransAm52804 was there. I had my doubts as to if it would happen or not, I'm glad it did. I dont think anyone else from this site was there. Sukkoi19 is out of town. DAMN WAS THAT PLACE PACKED! I would have preferred to not have the tittie showing and burnout contest for the sake of more race time. Even the flag girl racing took forever. I ran twice, first time I left my motherloving traction control on. It was my first run at the track ever (got the car in Oct, stored it over winter) I had some nervousness develop once I rounded the corner and saw down the lanes. (brain wasnt working right, thought I didnt rev high enough for a burnout, didnt realize trac was on until the green) Ended up going 14.0 @ 105 w/ a 2.4 60'. That run was actually against TransAm52804, it was a good ass race. Well, aside from my atrocious launch leaving me like four cars back we were dead even. Next run I made sure to turn that shit off. Ran against a black SRT-4 with stock wheels. Spun up pretty bad to a 2.38 60' and ran 13.6 @ 106.8 shutting down the neon in the process. I could have ran probably four times but I wanted to watch some, especially the domestic eliminations. I'm hoping to make it out to fun ford on saturday so I can work on my 60' time. :judge: I had fun!

I'm sure that I saw your black Z. Just didnt know you'd be there otherwise I would have approached. TransAm52804 has the red WS.6 but it is distinguishable by his dark tint all the way around. My car is distinguishable by being a hardtop SOM Z that also has the sport appearance package. If you see one, it's mine. I'm pretty confident that there isnt another one like mine even remotely close to this area.

Awhile back I used the '02 production numbers to figure a *ROUGH* estimate of how many cars the same as mine are out there. I'm not sure if the way I figured it is right but it makes sense to me.
I was wondering about my car but the numbers only go so far. You'll have to do some estimating.

This is what I did for mine.

42098 total camaro's for the US in 2002
9944 were hardtops

32.3% (of all camaros) were Z28 - 3211.9 hardtop Z28's

24.4% (") were M6 - 783.7 M6 hardtop Z28's

4.5% (") were SOM - 35.2 SOM M6 hardtop Z28's

11.8% (") had the sport appearance package - 4.1 Sport SOM M6 hardtop Z28's

This is not figuring little things like black leather(38.6% of all 02 maro's) and traction control(47.1% of all 02 maro's). I wasnt bothering with the petty shyt.

But, I KNOW IT'S A GUESSTIMATE, I believe I have a pretty rare car.
If you double that for the fact that '01 and '02 were the only years for SOM. That's like maybe 9 or 10 of my exact car in the world. I'm not saying this is 100% accurate, I'm just saying if you see one in the QC it's me.

I'm in St. Louis right now at my cousin's house. I had to get up at 9:30 this morning after going to bed at 5:00 and drive down here so, needless to say, I'm going to sleep.

:cheers:Jim

i remembered seeing a few cars there. red TA, a red Firehawk? not sure if it was a Firehawk, had firehawk in yellow on the sides, a red camaro with C6 rims, black SS. Killed a white mustang GT though from the southside of Chi, which i ran pretty $hitty against, but that was pretty much all night. ran a 13.6 @ 102 as best last night. pretty piss poor. Cordova's a tough track for me.
Yeh, i could've passed on the titties. Time flew faster than i thought it would. But the crazy lines of cars checked that.
BTW, did you or anyone else happen to see the driver of a silver Eclipse get out of his car at the burnout pit and yell at the crowd askin who was talkin $hit? Everyone was callin him a fatass, courtesy of my brother. The Eclipse ended up running an 80MPH pass, and this short dude yells Fatass again, and a track official tells us to clear the staging area. This escalates further, but i'm not going into all that.
Pretty decent night. I hope the other MM's aren't this packed. Hopefully we'll get to run into each other then or at other venues.

^ Yeah I had to work 12-9 (got off at 7 though), but DAMN was I tired alllllll day!

Last night's Midnight Mayhem was fun for the most part. Granted, I spent $15 for THREE... runs over a 4-hour period which was ridiculous. There are some weekends where I'll go to a Test and Tune and practically hot lap the whole time.

Anyways, there were a SHITLOAD of people there. I knew it'd be packed, but nothing even remotely close to how many were there. My runs were shitty each time: 13.4 @ 107.5, 13.5 @ 107, and 13.7 @ 105 (gave my g/f a ride and totally spun through all of 1st lol, whoops), and each one was 2.2-2.4 60's. I was spinning all night basically.

LSWannabe did actually really damn good for his first time at the track ever, especially with a 6speed. I knew his first run would be iffy, but his 2nd run was badass for his 2nd-ever. With more practice and on a decent Test and Tune night, I'll bet you'll be hittin' low 13's as is because your MPH definitely indicates it.

Next MM, I'm definitely gonna sit it out and watch though.

Kev,check that the wheels run straight on jackstands, axle flanges are easy to bend.I also experianced a forged yolk on my 12 bolt getting bent after a driveshaft scatter, vibrated like a mofo.

kev93z
05-30-2005, 03:23 PM
thanks for the tip glenn. thats how i found the bad bearing on that side. i just jacked it up and tried it again and that same wheel is wobbling so bad i can see the guide pin on the caliper moving in and out. the gears sound good and i dont here any bad noises or grinding. the axle didnt look bent and i had 2 shops mess with the bearing and neither said anything about it being bent. it does appear that it is bent though, just by the way its wobbling. is the passenger side the side that engages when the posi activates? if so that would explain why it vibrates when i stab the gas and the posi locks that side into everything. im gonna pull the cover and see if everything is spinning smoothly in there and probably order a axle from moser tommorrow.

kev

glennster
05-30-2005, 08:41 PM
Are you saying the the pass side is still wobbling? Its always a good practice to safely jackstand the car and take it up to speed with a bud at the wheel and watch for tires/wheels/driveshaft vibrating. You said this car was in a wreck? If so you most likely have a bent axle flange which will be easy to see with above practice.I've very rarely seen a vibration come from the guts of the diff. and even so it would be noisey as hell.usually an "on accel" vibration is u-joint or driveline angle.

The Mystic has never had a front plate and it NEVER will. There's no holes there for a bracket anyway and I am most certainly not going to drill any. I really don't care how many tickets i get. In my book $75 is cheaper than $500 for a new front bumper and another $650 for one pint of paint!!

Exactly. I really don't see the whole point of having to have a front plate. It really should be optional, because for some cars, especially sporty ones, they really make the front end look like shit.

And honestly, what the hell is the cop gonna see when he pulls you over to run your tags? THE REAR PLATE!! So why the hell are we "forced" to have a front one? Oh, that's right: anything for our money to be given to the gov't. :eyes:

Yes it does, but I usually adhere to the rule that if it aint throwing sparks dont fix it. Hows that cammed and stalled 200k project coming along?

It dyno'd 340 horse, Not bad for a 202k ls1 engine. For the sad news it got
Got t-boned today and looks to be totaled. :(
Well atleast I only had a few thousand in it.
maybe we could find a fox shell and bring this beast back to life. How is the car comming? Did you find the problem with it, I want to check out the progress. I have to do a wedding all weekend so my progress on the lt5 (zr1 corvette powered) s-10 is on hold.
Your guys going to be out this weekend?
Later.

Hey Chris you want to have a little friendly race. This time from a light so we can both go at the same time. I've got my Comps mounted on my other rims so i'll have traction finally. I'm all tuned and set if you wanna run em. I wouldn't mind showin all those people who think 03/04s are slow that it is entirely UNTRUE!!!
