Default Oil Analysis Results

On my ARE 422 with ~1500 miles...

Opinions? I believe the elevated Calcium is normal, I think its a buffer used to combat acidity. Not sure on Phosphorus and Zinc. Copper is used in bearings, right?

Copper is always elevated in an LS1 for the first 30K miles or so. If you want some real technical input, post your results on the used oil analysis forum at bobistheoilguy.com There are a lot of very very knowledgable people over there. You will need to post your miles on car, miles on oil, how driven, make-up oil for oil change interval and any fuel additives that you have used. Your lead looks high also.

At BITOG we don't allow hotmail or yahoo or gmail addresses, so try another one other than these.

How fresh is your engine? Is it only 1500 miles old or is the oil? (or both?)

If this is the first oil change, ignore the numbers. If it's not the first one, you've got a ton of wear happening! Iron and lead are extremely high for only 1500 miles. In 5000 miles I only saw 8ppm of iron and 1ppm of lead in my report.

Calcium is a detergent/antiwear agent, and copper comes from the cam bearings and is always high at first on the Ls1. Zinc and phosphorus are antiwear agents too.

What oil is this? It has already thinned out to a 20 weight.

Silicon is very high, which is normal for a new engine, but if it stays high it indicates an air leak (silicon is both dirt and antifoaming in new oil, but should not be higher than 10-15ppm in 5000 miles, mine was 7 in 5k)
