Need some advice on buying a WS6
I narrowed my search down to a couple of cars and could use some advice/tips.
First car i'm interested in is an '02 SOM A4 WS6 with GMMG chambered exhaust with 2900 miles which he's asking $24,900 for. It's a private seller, is there anything I should know about haggeling down the price thats different with a private seller than a dealer, and is the price he's asking fair (or what would be fair)?
Second car is an '02 Silver M6 WS6 that's GM certified with ~7800 miles with a $24,400 asking price. What could I get the price down to (from a dealer)?
Right now i'm leaning towards the 02 SOM A4 mainly because SOM kicks *** and i'm currently not in the ideal situation to drive a stick. I could always do the A4 > M6 swap anyway. Any tip's for how to haggle with a private seller would be appreciated.
(There's also an 02 Red M6 with about 2500 miles for $22,000, also GM certified. I have yet to see a red T/A in person though and the car is about 4 hours away)
Thanks

theres another thread called 'going price for 02 ta' or something, and most people (including me) say dont go above 20k. the demand isnt that great anymore for these cars. sure, they payed 30k for them new, but that was in 02...not 05. and, in texas, theres a 02 CETA for sale at a pontiac dealer with 275 miles or something for 25k. its brand new, never titled...so the factory warranty hasnt started. if i was in texas, and was looking for a car....that what i would try for, especially since its around the same starting price, and its brand new....i found it on ebay if you want to look for it..

From the dealer you should be able to get 2-3 thousand knocked down. From the private seller, it sounds like he maybe over priceing the car but then again Im not sure what the price the ws6 goes for. Being a private seller and lets say he upped the price do to the popularity then i'd say about the same as a dealer. Why not get a trans-am you would get a lot better price then a ws6 unless you want a genuine ws6. Either way good choice in car, I prefer the Camaro but the WS-6 is also a great choice.

I baught my 2001 brand new in 2001 for $23,000. Bring a NADA, of Kelly blue book quote with you. worst case scenario is you pay little more than you wanted. remember these cars are not made anymore and 2900 miles is nothing. Consider what you are getting. 2002 is also the last year they produced thesae cars, so odds are that he paid more than sticker for it.Demand was vaery high the last year of production.
Good luck

SOM or silver, that's a tuff choice. I really like both colors. Have you checked Kelly Blue book? I would say go with the SOM if you are looking for an auto. If you can agree on the price then I think you'll be happy.

I looked into getting just the base T/A but there are so few around my area with similar mileage and the price isn't much lower that I figured it wouldn't be worth it. After buying a new hood, springs, etc, it would come out to around the same price. I talked to the seller of the SOM and was told a dealer offered him $22,700.
I checked Kelly Blue Book, but I don't think it's very accurate. With the same options, I only get a $275 price difference between 29,000 and 2900 miles.

You need to get your hands on a ( ) dealers edition NADA book, to see what cars are really worth! Then, you can factor in rarity, demand, etc. and know EXACTLY what the guys up at the dealership do. It's fun.
