Descreening a stock MAF, good or bad idea?

Descreening a stock MAF, good or bad idea?
I have a stock MAF and from what I've read while searching, a stock MAF is the way to go. Most other aftermarket MAFs are more trouble than they're worth when it comes to tuning them. Anyhow, I didnt run into anything about descreening a MAF and was wondering if it was beneficial in any way or if it has a negative affect on the tuning, calibration, etc.? Should I leave it on or take it off? If I take it off, I'm sure there will be slightly better air flow, anyone ever put it on a flow bench to see how much more it flows? If it does affect the tuning, can it be correct easily with a tune?

I didn't even have one when I got my car. It's really more to direct airflow than anything, and since our cars don't have any curves in the intake tract I don't really see any reason to keep it. I'd only do it with an aftermarket lid though, the stock air silencers have to create a lot of turbulence.

I descreened mine this summer and saw neither gains nor problems. When the opportunity arose to buy a used screened MAF end for 10 bucks I bought it and put in on my car. The stock MAF with the screen is good for a little over 600 HP. One more thing, if your car has an auto tranny you might have problems after descreening. The MAF is used to adjust line pressure on the A4s.

Descreened my MAF (A4) about 3 years ago, no problems and the car at least seemed to run a tiny bit quicker...I have also altered shift points and firmness even further via a Hypertech.
