Default What can I rev to NOW?

I'm switching from my TR224 / 918's to TSP 233/239 and PP Gold duals.
Be here in about a week...

I was reving to 6600 with the 918's, what can I do now? I'll have to see the dyno sheet to know for sure what I can rev too power wise, but what about mechanically without worrying about float.

I have s2 heads, manly valves blah blah put down about 395 ish on the old setup with no ls6 intake.

My rev limiter is set at 7k rpms with my 231/237 cam... I shift around 6700-6800 rpms since the cam seems to peak around 6200, give or a take a little. I'm gonna guess that your cam will be similar in where it peaks, maybe a tiny bit higher... I wouldn't want my engine to live at where my shift points are at on the stock bottom end, but I'm confortable with it on the occasional trip to the drag strip.

Thanks for the opinion

You ran a 12.2 with that cam and a 12 bolt? I would expect better!... did something happen? (no offence ofcourse if it was a good run) I just would think the times would be better. With my 224 no 12 bolt and no intake or LTs I was running 12.7

No offense taken... a 12 bolt actually won't help you go faster, it'll just help to make sure you don't break as easily.

I ran a 12.6 full bolt-ons with no cam installed at all, and on a 10 bolt with 4.10 gears. Adding just the cam and the 12 bolt (which actually adds more weight, so it doesn't help) with the same exact gear ratio that I had in my 10 bolt dropped my times by over 4 tenths of a second.

The reasons for ET and trap speed being what they are:

1) stock clutch... couldn't launch at anything over 4k on the stocker, which bogs the engine at the line when using ET Streets... to really get a great launch and great ET, I really needed to launch at around 5500-6000 rpms, and the clutch literally wouldn't do it. I have a DVD of my runs that day, and you can also hear the clutch slipping badly on every upshift (RPMs hang big time), which also slowed me down.

2) I didn't powershift... I used to lift my foot from the accelerator on each upshift because I didn't want to trash my tranny. I'm having the transmission built up this off-season so I can powershift it this coming season and not have to worry about it breaking on me... no more lifting if I can at all help it.

3) I live in Seattle, and our air isn't great compared to a lot of places when talking about racing... the conditions are horrible by any means (we're not Denver or anything) but it certainly could be better.

4) I still have some room for improvement as a driver, I ain't gonna lie about that.

I'm confident with launching at high rpms and with powershifting this car has the potential to easily drop into the high 11s, as long as I drive it well enough. High 11s is pretty much all I would expect from this car N/A on stock heads.

I also got the TSP 233/239 with the PRC kit, so I emailed Jason at TSP and this is what he told me."It will peak about 6200-6300 so I would shift at 6500-6600" and the rev limiter between 6700-6900.

just remember your valve springs arent usually the limiting factor in deciding how high you can rev.....its the rod bolts that usually take a **** from high revving
01-02 got better rod bolts IF yours is a 01-02 i would feel more comfortable with 6800-7000 although with 7000 you are living on the edge.....if you have a 98-00 i wouldnt go higher that 6800 although some do and live for a while to tell about it just look at a dyno graph see where it peaks and choose a limiter based upon that, go a few hundred RPMS higher than peak power for example i peak at 6400 and limiter is 6800 i could use another 1-200 rpms but i dont want to replace my short block anytime soon,

hope i helped

2.1, lol. I know the car will run faster (that was cam alone no heads or LT's ), that's why I didn't tell anyone I went. I really don't want anyone to know my times untill I get it finished for this summer and go again. Pluss it was my first time ever to the track.

Tranzor_Z28: I get it, that's still a hell of a run. I will be going form 3.73's and nittos to 4.11's in a 12 bolt and ET streets, maybe that's why i'm expecting such a jump in time. Thanks for the clarification though.

Nick: Yes I bought an intake aswell, I figured it was time for one and I AM putting it in myself, I did my heads, so why not? heh. I'll be calling you shortly for my tune though! -- hey, when I get my 12 bolt you can put it in, depending on how much you want to do it

Alright well it sounds like I can just leave the rev limiter where it is. If the dyno says it can go a little higher, maybe i'll have it set to 7, and shift at 6800.
